Psychrotrophic properties of Listeria monocytogenes

Listeria monocytogenes grew between 3 and 45C. Growth at 10C was at a rate characteristic of psychrophilic bacteria. The increase in the duration of the lag phase of growth with decreasing temperatures was expressed with a hyperbolic curve which indicated an infinite lag time at 3.3C.

Isolation and characterization of psychrotrophs from subterranean environments

Subterranean environments are potential sources for the isolation of novel microorganisms. Water and soil samples were collected at depths ranging from 10 to 1800 meters below the surface, and screening was carried out with aerobic rich and anaerobic minimal media.
