Internal parasites and association with diarrhoea in sheep at an abattoir in Western Australia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Diarrhoea (scouring) is an important issue for the sheep meat industry. Scouring is a major risk factor for fleece soiling and consequential carcase contamination with microbes that cause meat spoilage and potential dangers for humans (2).

Antibiotic Resistance Patterns of Pseudomonas spp. Isolated From Raw Milk Revealed by Whole Genome Sequencing

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Psychrotrophic bacteria in raw milk are most well known for their spoilage potential and the economic losses they cause to the dairy industry. Food-related psychrotrophic bacteria are increasingly reported to have antibiotic resistance features.

Functionality Enhancement of Pullulan‐Based Composites for Food Packaging Applications

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Contemporary research in food packaging is focused on developing sustainable alternatives to petroleum‐based materials. Pullulan, a microbial biopolymer traditionally employed as a food additive, is harnessing interest for food packaging applications due to its exceptional film‐forming ability, biodegradability, and nontoxic nature.

Effect of ozonated water on the microbiological physical and nutritional quality parameters of minimally processed lettuce during shelf-life [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Since chlorine is not accepted for treatment of organic products, alternative sanitizing agents are needed to assure the safety and shelf-life of fresh-cut organic vegetables.

Combined effect of sodium polyphosphate and smoking on quality parameters of fish (Capoeta umbla) sausage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Improving food quality is one the major issues for the food processing industry. Since food produced from fish spoils quickly, it obviously cannot be kept for an extended time.

Recent Advances in Lemongrass Essential Oil: Food Safety, Preservation, and Bioactivity in Food Systems

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Lemongrass essential oil (LGEO) has gained recognition as a natural preservative in food systems due to its distinctive phytochemical composition and multifunctional bioactivities. Dominated by citral and complemented by terpenes and phenolic compounds, LGEO demonstrates potent antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antibiofilm, and antioxidant

Edible Coating Chitosan‐Acerola to Replace the Sulfites as Preservatives of Fresh Shrimps (Litopenaeus vannamei)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Science, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Melanosis is a chemical reaction based on lipid oxidation, which reduces shrimp shelf‐life. This research is aimed at applying chitosan‐based coating solutions incorporated with a natural antioxidant (acerola extract) as an antimelanotic material for shrimp preservation.

Role of some psychrotrophic aerobic sporeforming bacteria in spoilage of raw milk

open access: yesThe Iraqi Journal of Veterinary Medicine, 2004
This study was planned to isolated and identify some psychrotrophic aerobic sporeforming bacteria from raw milk and determine the predomenant isolate.  Microbiological estimations were performed for (100) raw milk samples collected from four sources ...

Evaluation of Inhibitors for Rapid Enumeration of Psychrotrophic Bacteria

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 1979
Two inhibitors of the 17 tested inhibited growth of gram positive bacteria without causing inhibition of gram negative bacteria. These were crystal violet at 2 mg/1 and neotetrazolium chloride at 2 mg/1. In addition, basic fuchsin at 6 mg/1 produced only marginal reduction in counts of gram negative bacteria.
