Crecimiento de Pteria sterna (Gould,1851) (Mollusca Bivalvia), bajo diferentes condiciones de temperatura y de concentración de alimento

open access: yes, 1991

REPRODUCTIVE CYCLE OF THE PEARL OYSTER PTERIA STERNA (PTERIIDAE) IN THE OJO DE LIEBRE LAGOON, B.C.S., MEXICO

Journal of Shellfish Research, 2007
Abstract The reproductive cycle of a wild population of the oyster pearl Pteria sterna living in the Ojo de Liebre lagoon was analyzed from February 2001 to February 2002. The gonadic development was studied both qualitatively (through histological analysis) and quantitatively (through an analysis of the percent follicular area). P.

The influence of culture method and culture period on quality of half-pearls (‘mabé’) from the winged pearl oyster Pteria sterna, Gould, 1851

open access: yesAquaculture, 2006
Two groups of 96 winged pearl oysters, Pteria sterna, with mean (± S.D.) dorso-ventral shell height (DVM) of 75.0 ± 6.0 mm, were used to evaluate the effect of two culture methods (pocket nets and plastic cages) on the quality of half-pearls (mabe) produced from them over a period of 9 months.

Release density influences restocking success in the winged pearl oyster Pteria sterna

Ocean & Coastal Management, 2019
Abstract A restocking experiment was conducted to determine the influence of release density on growth, survival with protection (natural), and survival without protection (by predation) in the winged pearl oyster Pteria sterna. Adult oysters were directly placed over the sea floor at 10 m depth in triplicate, 3 × 3 m parcels at densities of 5, 10 ...

Accumulation of docosapolyenoic fatty acids in developing oocytes of the winged pearl oyster Pteria sterna

Aquaculture, 2014
Ensuring supplies of pearl oyster spat for commercial grafting operations in Mexico is an ongoing problem. This has refocused research toward improving hatchery propagation protocols. Since gender plays an important role in the physiology of bivalves, we studied the use of fatty acids in the gonad and digestive gland of male and female winged pearl ...

Use of calcein to estimate and validate age in juveniles of the winged pearl oyster Pteria sterna [PDF]

open access: yesAquatic Living Resources, 2011
Determining age is an important step when assessing growth, mortality, and yield of cultivated and wild populations, but studies linking shell growth marks in the pearl oyster Pteria sterna with the age of individuals are lacking. Thirty juveniles (20.0 ±

Purification and functional analysis of the shell matrix protein N66 from the shell of the pearl oyster Pteria sterna

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2019
Mollusk biomineralization is a process controlled by a complex interplay of proteins, ions and external regulators. In spite of several studies, there is a lack of knowledge of who (molecules involved), how (mechanism) and why (evolution and adaptation) mollusk are designed as we know them.

Spatial and temporal spatfall of the winged Pearl Oyster Pteria sterna (Gould, 1851), in Equatorial Coasts

Aquaculture, 2019
Abstract The aim of the present study was to determine the spatial and temporal spatfall of the winged pearl oyster Pteria sterna in three different synthetic collectors (green mesh bags + mesh fence and mosquito net), deployed at three depths (2, 4 and 6 m).
