Hurry up and wait: Developmental anxiety during the transition to adulthood

open access: yesJournal of Family Theory &Review, EarlyView.
Abstract Growing up is rarely easy, yet adolescents and young adults today are reporting distress at rates never seen before. We propose this trend can be traced to societal forces that accelerate and suppress development, resulting in developmental anxiety (i.e., worry about meeting adult milestones on time, if ever).

Increase of astrocyte apposition on GnRH neurons in early puberty onset induced by high fat diet

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, EarlyView.
This study suggests that the HFD‐induced anticipation of puberty seems to be, at least partially, mediated by an increase in the interaction between astrocytes and GnRH neurons in both the MPOA and ARC/EM, which may increase the excitability of GnRH neurons.

MKRN3 and KISS1R mutations in precocious and early puberty

open access: yesItalian Journal of Pediatrics, 2020
Background Pubertal timing is known to be influenced by interactions among various genetic, nutritional, environmental and socio-economic factors, although the ultimate mechanisms underlying the increase in pulsatile GnRH secretion at puberty have yet to

Management of precocious puberty [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology, 2013
The objectives of treatment for children with central precocious puberty (CPP) are to avoid psychosocial problems caused by early pubertal development and to normalize adult height (AH). A long-acting GnRH analog is the treatment of choice for CPP.

Dynamic changes in Ccn3 expression across the limbic forebrain through the mouse estrous cycle and during lactation

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, EarlyView.
Abstract Cellular communication network factor 3 (CCN3), also known as nephroblastoma overexpressed (NOV), is an adipocytokine that has recently been suggested to be secreted selectively by hypothalamic arcuate nucleus kisspeptin (ARNKISS) neurons to protect bone density during lactation. Using RNAscope hybridization, we have examined the expression of

Teen Unions and Intimate Partner Violence in South America

open access: yesPopulation and Development Review, EarlyView.
Abstract Precocious exits from adolescence via early union formation are often argued to represent a strong risk factor for intimate partner violence (IPV) victimization. However, causal evidence for this claim is scant. This study examines the impact of teen union formation (before age 18) on experiences of IPV in Brazil and Colombia, where early ...
