Elucidating R‐gene‐mediated resistance to wheat dwarf virus in Triticum aestivum genotypes

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 188, Issue 3, Page 947-961, May 2026.
This study investigates R‐gene‐mediated resistance to wheat dwarf virus (WDV) among different wheat genotypes. Following inoculation with Psammotettix alienus (leafhoppers) and the subsequent appearance of characteristic symptoms such as yellowing and dwarfing, phenotypic responses were evaluated alongside molecular analyses, including quantification ...

Adaptation of French Wheat Leaf Rust (Puccinia triticina) Populations to Triticale

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 75, Issue 3, May–June 2026.
Our results reveal significant genetic isolation between wheat and triticale Puccinia triticina populations. However, a few triticale‐derived isolates exhibit virulence profiles that are characteristic of bread wheat isolates, highlighting the need for integrated disease resistance management across both crops.

Dissecting multi‐rust resistance in wheat through genome‐wide association study, haplotype analysis, and marker validation

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 1, March 2026.
Abstract Wheat is a major global staple food affected by three diseases: leaf rust (LR), stem rust (SR), and stripe rust (YR), all of which can cause substantial yield losses. Identifying genotypes with broad‐spectrum resistance to diverse pathotypes of all three rusts remains a major challenge.

TaSPX3 Enhances Wheat Resistance to Leaf Rust by Antagonising TaDi19‐Mediated Repression of Pathogenesis‐Related Genes

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 3, Page 1031-1043, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Wheat leaf rust, caused by Puccinia triticina (Pt), threatens global wheat production, with yield losses further exacerbated by the pathogen's evolving virulence. Although Syg1/Pho81/Xpr1 (SPX) domain‐containing proteins are known regulators of phosphate homeostasis, their involvement in plant–pathogen interactions remains largely unexplored ...

Unlocking the genetic control of early seedling resistance to wheat powdery mildew through microphenomics

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 2, Page 1668-1679, February 2026.
Microphenomics is a new technique for detecting the very early resistance of powdery mildew in wheat seedlings, after 24, 48, and 72 h from infection. A number of 29, 42, and 34 genes models were identified to harbor significant SNP markers associated with the early resistance to WPM.

CtTLP13 Located in Extracellular Vesicles Enhances the Resistance of Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) to Botrytis cinerea

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 27, Issue 2, February 2026.
Safflower is susceptible to fungal infection, while research on its disease‐resistant genes remains scarce. CtTLP13, which is localised in safflower EVs, was identified by GWAS and multi‐omics analyses. Its antifungal activity was validated through both in vivo and in vitro assays, and safflower EVs themselves exhibit antifungal capacity.

Durable resistance to Puccinia triticina by accumulation of resistance genes

open access: yesGenetika, 2009
The individual use of single race-specific resistance genes with major phenotypic effects has rarely provided lasting resistance. However, breeding and combining or pyramiding of resistance genes into individual cultivars has had considerable success, particularly in situations in which the pathogen does not reproduce sexually, as in the case of wheat ...

Identyfikacja genów odporności na rdzę brunatną w wybranych europejskich odmianach pszenicy zwyczajnej oraz opracowanie warunków Multiplex PCR

open access: yesAgronomy Science, 2013

Genetic Gains in Durum Wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. durum) Across the Globe: Yield, Quality and Adapting for Variable Weather Patterns

open access: yesPlant Breeding, Volume 145, Issue 1, Page 142-165, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. durum [Desf.] Husnot) is cultivated globally and used to produce pasta, couscous, bulgur and other semolina products. With the growing world population and increasing food demand, it is pertinent to understand past trends in global food production to shape future endeavours.
