Acoustomechanics of semicrystalline polymers

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2016
We develop an acoustomechanical theory for semicrystalline polymers and demonstrate that acoustic radiation force is capable of causing giant deformation in these materials.

Pull-in instability and free vibration of electrically actuated poly-SiGe graded micro-beams with a curved ground electrode

open access: yes, 2012
This paper investigates the pull-in instability and free vibration of functionally graded poly-SiGe micro-beams under combined electrostatic force, intermolecular force and axial residual stress, with an emphasis on the effects of ground electrode shape,

Pull-in behavior analysis of vibrating functionally graded micro-cantilevers under suddenly DC voltage

open access: yesJournal of Applied and Computational Mechanics, 2015
The present research attempts to explain dynamic pull-in instability of functionally graded micro-cantilevers actuated by step DC voltage while the fringing-field effect is taken into account in the vibrational equation of motion.

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Precision Balance Assessment in Parkinson’s Disease: Utilizing Vision-Based 3D Pose Tracking for Pull Test Analysis

open access: yesSensors
Postural instability is a common complication in advanced Parkinson’s disease (PD) associated with recurrent falls and fall-related injuries. The test of retropulsion, consisting of a rapid balance perturbation by a pull in the backward direction, is ...

The Pull Test: A Dynamic Test to Confirm Hip Microinstability

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, 2019
Purpose: To define a distraction distance (pull length) cut-off that would differentiate those patients with hip microinstability and those without the disorder, called the Pull-Out Test.

Temperature Sensitivity of Silicon Cantilevers with the Pull-in Instability Method

open access: yesProcedia Chemistry, 2009
AbstractIn this paper the temperature effects on [110] Silicon cantilevers is analyzed and measured in the range of 25 -100 °C. The quasi-static electrostatic pull-in instability method developed recently for ultra-thin cantilevers [“Characterizing Size-dependent Effective Elastic Modulus of Silicon Nanocantilevers Using Electrostatic Pull-in ...

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.
