Cracking the Code: Which Ocular Symptoms Predict Dry Eye Signs? Insights From a Large International Sicca Registry

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The study aimed to identify symptom‐based predictors of dry eye disease (DED) signs in the Sjögren's International Collaborative Clinical Alliance (SICCA) cohort. Methods We performed a retrospective analysis examining 16 ocular symptoms (most graded 0–4) and artificial tear (AT) use (graded 0–3) as predictors of DED signs (abnormal ocular ...

The Retropulsion Test: A Good Evaluation of Postural Instability in Parkinson's Disease?

open access: yesJournal of Parkinson’s Disease, 2015
Postural instability is a disabling feature of Parkinson's disease (PD), contributing to recurrent falls and fall-related injuries. The retropulsion test is widely regarded as the gold standard to evaluate postural instability, and is therefore a key ...

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

Pull-in instability of geometrically nonlinear micro-switches under electrostatic and Casimir forces

open access: yes, 2011
This paper investigates the pull-in instability of micro-switches under the combined electrostatic and intermolecular forces and axial residual stress, accounting for the force nonlinearity and geometric nonlinearity which stems from mid-plane stretching.

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Pull-in instability behaviour of nanoscale actuators using nonlocal elasticity theory

open access: yes, 2012
This paper modified the linear distributed load (LDL) model for cantilever nano-beams. A linear load model which suits boundary conditions was proposed to approximate with nonlinear intermolecular and electrostatic interactions. In the modified LDL model,

How Macroeconomic Instability Lowers Child Survival [PDF]

open access: yes
The reduction of child mortality is one of the most universally accepted millennium goals. However, a significant debate came out on the means of reaching it and on its realism with regard to the situation of most of the least developed countries.

Molecular Dynamic Study of Pull-In Instability of Nano-Switches

open access: yesAdvances in Nanoparticles, 2014
Capacitive nano-switches have been of great interest as replacements for conventional semiconductor switches. Accurate determination of the pull-in voltage is critical in the design process. In the present investigation, pull-in instability of nano-switches made of two parallel plates subjected to electrostatic force is studied.

Near‐Field Electrospinning Micro‐Printhead Achieves Precise Control of Nanofiber Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A micro‐printhead for near‐field electrospinning enables reproducible deposition of polymer nanofibers with diameters below 50 nm. Systematic parameter studies uncover the mechanisms linking operating conditions to fiber morphology, paving the way for precise and low‐cost nanoscale 3D manufacturing. As a high‐resolution, cost‐effective, and rapid ...

Detecting Postural Instability in Parkinson’s Disease From IMU-Based Objective Measures

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering
Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a progressive neurological disorder that affects both motor and non-motor functions. A critical aspect of PD is postural instability, which is associated with a higher risk of falls and a significant decline in mobility.
