Pulmonary artery diameter to predict pulmonary hypertension in pulmonary sarcoidosis [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Respiratory Journal, 2015
Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a known complication of pulmonary sarcoidosis with a prevalence ranging from 5% to 74% [1]. The aetiology of PH in sarcoidosis is not fully understood. Usually, it is attributed to the destruction of the distal capillary bed by lung fibrosis and/or chronic hypoxaemia.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Simultaneous Percutaneous Alcohol Ablation of Pulmonary and Hepatic Hydatid Cysts: “PAIR” in a Pair

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Interventional Radiology ISVIR, 2017
We present a 48-year-old lady with left chest pain and dyspnea of 6 months duration. Computed tomography scan revealed a left-sided cystic lesion in the lung parenchyma abutting the posterior pleura and chest wall along with a similar cystic lesion in ...

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

A case of pulmonary transthyretin amyloidosis with concurrent mycobacterial tuberculosis infection

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports
Amyloidosis is a pathological deposition disease that causes a spectrum of organ dysfunction. Pulmonary involvement is generally associated with immunoglobulin light chain type (AL) amyloid. Transthyretin (ATTR) amyloid build up in the lung is thought to

Magnetic resonance imaging as an adjunct to computed tomography in the diagnosis of pulmonary Hydatid cysts

open access: yesIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging, 2018
Introduction: Although pulmonary hydatid cysts can be diagnosed on computed tomography (CT), sometimes findings can be atypical. Other hypodense infective or neoplastic lesions may mimic hydatid cysts.

E‐cigarette or vaping product use‐associated lung injury (EVALI) features and recognition in the emergency department

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Emergency Physicians Open, 2020
Since August 2019, the pulmonary disease termed e‐cigarette or vaping product‐use associated lung injury (EVALI), has resulted in 2758 hospitalizations and 64 deaths in the United States. EVALI is considered in patients who have vaped or dabbed within 90

Risk Prediction Models for Recurrence After Curative Treatment of Early‐Stage or Locally Advanced Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This systematic review synthesizes prognostic models for survival and recurrence in resected non‐small cell lung cancer. While many models demonstrate moderate to good discrimination, few are externally validated and reporting quality is variable, limiting clinical applicability and highlighting the need for robust, transparent model development ...

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.
