Organoids: From Bench to Bedside Applications

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
Organoids, as a groundbreaking biomedical research platform, utilize adult stem cells (ASCs), embryonic stem cells (ESCs), and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) as sources. By integrating specific growth and differentiation signals within an extracellular matrix (e.g., Matrigel), organoids guide cells to self‐assemble into three‐dimensional ...

Preclinical Quantitative In Vivo MRI Assessment of Exogenous Surfactant Pulmonary Distribution After Clinically Relevant Intratracheal Delivery

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 6, June 2026.
Quantitative in vivo contrast‐enhanced UTE MRI enables sensitive and precise mapping of pulmonary surfactant distribution, revealing peripheral localization and homogeneous distal penetration under physiological conditions. Comparison with ex vivo models highlights the role of physiological processes in surfactant retention.

Sidestream-dark field videomicroscopy for the in vivo evaluation of the pulmonary alveoli and microcirculation in mechanically ventilated pigs [PDF]

open access: yes
Introduction: Under mechanical ventilation, the pulmonary microcirculation can be affected by the expansion or collapse of alveoli, resulting in a change in pulmonary vascular resistance.

Recurrent Pneumothorax Following Multilevel Posterior Spinal Fixation in a Patient With Pre‐Existing Pulmonary Contusion: A Case Report

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
We report a life‐threatening recurrent pneumothorax in a polytrauma patient following posterior spinal fixation, triggered by the physiological stress of prone positioning and positive pressure ventilation on a pre‐existing pulmonary contusion. This case highlights the critical risk of early chest tube removal and advocates for maintaining pleural ...

Sympatho‐Excitation in Pulmonary Hypertension: The Potential Role of Pulmonary Arterial Baroreceptors: An Acute Physiologic Intervention Study

open access: yesRespirology, Volume 31, Issue 6, Page 621-629, June 2026.
Pulmonary arterial baroreceptors reflexively stimulate sympathetic nerve activity (SNA) in response to elevated pulmonary artery pressure and distension. In pulmonary hypertension patients, changes in muscle SNA were proportional to changes in pulmonary haemodynamics following nebulised iloprost.

Lactobacillus paracasei L9 Ameliorates Pulmonary Fibrosis in Aged Mice via Gut‐Lung Axis‐Mediated Regulation of Immune Cell Migration

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 6, June 2026.
Oral administration of Lactobacillus paracasei L9 (L9) reshapes the gut microbiota, specifically increasing the abundance of short‐chain fatty acid (SCFA)‐producing bacteria (e.g., Blautia), thereby leading to a significant elevation of serum propionic acid (97% increase) and butyric acid (193% increase).

Transcriptomic analysis reveals lipid metabolism and macrophage involvement associated with nintedanib treatment in a rat bleomycin model

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 12, Page 3395-3408, June 2026.
In this study, nintedanib reduced lung fibrosis in a rat double‐hit bleomycin‐induced model. Transcriptomic analysis revealed two key gene signatures related to the effect of the molecule: one involving mesenchymal cells affecting known fibrotic pathways and another linking mainly macrophages to lipid metabolism.
