Ringtail (Bassariscus astutus) survival in southwestern Oregon

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We captured and monitored radio‐collared ringtails over 2 years to estimate monthly and annual survival rates. We found that annual survival rates were much higher within forested landscapes in Oregon than for populations in the southwestern United States.

Postmodern Puma

open access: yesM/C Journal, 2003
Postmodernism is supposed to identify the conditions of contemporary cultural production when human affairs in general, and the dissemination of prevailing ideas in particular, have become fully enmeshed in relations of commodity exchange. (Martin 2002, p.

Decoding Molecular Mechanisms of Pongamia pinnata Phytochemicals in Cancer Therapy

open access: yesMedicine Advances, EarlyView.
Pongamia pinnata phytochemicals have multiple anticancer mechanisms, including antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, anti‐metastatic, and apoptosis‐inducing activities through molecular‐level regulation. These bioactive compounds protect normal cells from oxidative stress while promoting reactive oxygen species‐mediated tumor cell death and suppressing ...

A role for miR-296 in the regulation of lipoapoptosis by targeting PUMA[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2011
Saturated free fatty acids (FFA) induce hepatocyte lipoapoptosis, a key mediator of liver injury in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Lipoapoptosis involves the upregulation of the BH3-only protein PUMA, a potent pro-apoptotic protein. Given that

PERFORMANCE AND NUTRITIONAL QUALITY OF PUMA HYBRIDS AND PRODUCTION EFFECTS IN SHEEP

open access: yesTropical and Subtropical Agroecosystems
Background: Due to climate change, forage production conditions are unstable, which makes it necessary to have corn varieties that are resistant to climate variations, as well as to the different types of soil that prevail in certain regions, as is the ...

Inhibiting aberrant p53-PUMA feedback loop activation attenuates ischaemia reperfusion-induced neuroapoptosis and neuroinflammation in rats by downregulating caspase 3 and the NF-κB cytokine pathway

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2018
Background Ischaemia reperfusion (IR) induces multiple pathophysiological changes. In addition to its classical role in regulating tumourigenesis, the feedback loop formed by p53 and its driven target p53-upregulated modulator of apoptosis (PUMA) was ...

Generalizing the Gaussian Network Model: Spanning‐Tree Thermodynamics Shows Entropy‐Driven KRAS Activation

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The GTPase KRAS executes a conformational switch between a GTP‐bound active state and a GDP‐bound inactive state, a process central to oncogenic signaling. However, the structural basis of this switching at the level of residue‐contact organization remains incompletely characterized by traditional binary structural models.

Forensic Hydraulic Analysis of Floodplain Connectivity Driven by Historical Beaver Dams in Colorado Headwater Streams

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As ecosystem engineers, beavers (Castor canadensis) modify river corridor form through dam building. When beavers are removed from a river corridor, their unmaintained dams wash out, altering the stream's hydrologic regime. The assumption that beaver dams increase floodplain connectivity is frequently presumed but has not been directly ...
