One-Step Purification of Punicalagin by Preparative HPLC and Stability Study on Punicalagin
Separation Science and Technology, 2010A novel, rapid, and high efficiency method to purify natural punicalagin by preparative HPLC is described. The optimum purification condition for punicalagin purification was 14% methanol in 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid solution as the mobile phase. The flow rate was 12 ml/min.

Punicalagin alleviates hepatotoxicity in rats challenged with cyclophosphamide
Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology, 2016This study investigated the possible hepatoprotection of punicalagin in rats received cyclophosphamide (20mg/kg/day, i.p., for 7 days). Punicalagin given at two doses, 15 and 30mg/kg/day, p.o., for 7 days, starting the same day of cyclophosphamide administration.

Punicalagin is a neuraminidase inhibitor of influenza viruses
Journal of Medical Virology, 2020AbstractInfluenza A virus (IAV) causes great morbidity and mortality worldwide every year. However, there are only a limited number of drugs clinically available against IAV infection. Further, emergence of drug‐resistant strains can render those drugs ineffective. Thus there is an unmet medical need to develop new anti‐influenza agents. In this study,

Punicalagin promotes human villous trophoblast differentiation
Placenta, 2016Poor differentiation of trophoblasts is associated with placental dysfunction, predisposing women to multiple pregnancy disorders. Punicalagin, a prominent ellagitannin in pomegranate juice has been shown to exert anti-apoptosis and anti-oxidative effects in human trophoblasts. We hypothesized that punicalagin modulates trophoblast differentiation.

In Vitro Studies on the Binding, Antioxidant, and Cytotoxic Actions of Punicalagin
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2007The protective bioactivity of punicalagin, a high molecular weight polyphenol isolated from pomegranate fruit pith and carpellary membrane, against oxidative damages to lipids, amino acids constituting the proteins, and guanosine as a model for DNA has been investigated.

Effects of Punicalagin and Punicalin on Carrageenan-Induced Inflammation in Rats
The American Journal of Chinese Medicine, 1999Punicalagin and punicalin were isolated from the leaves of Terminalia catappa L. In this study, we evaluated the anti-inflammatory activity of punicalagin and punicalin carrageenan-induced hind paw edema in rats. After evaluation of the anti-inflammatory effects, the edema rates were increased by carrageenan administration and reduced by drug ...

Gastroprotective activity of punicalagin and Lafoensia pacari in mice
Revista Brasileira de Farmacognosia, 2020Lafoensia pacari A. St.-Hil., Lythraceae, is used in Brazilian folk medicine to treat ulcer and gastritis; thus, it is important to conduct research so as to better understand its medicinal properties. The aim of this study was to assess the antisecretory and antiulcerogenic activities of lyophilized aqueous fraction and punicalagin isolated from ...
