The Effects and Mechanisms of Pomegranate on Regulating Lipid Metabolism

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
This study established a high‐fat diet‐induced hyperlipidemia rat model to investigate the lipid‐lowering effects of pomegranate. Pomegranate intervention significantly reduced serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), and low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL‐C) levels, while alleviating hepatic steatosis by decreasing liver weight and fat ...

Impact of Punicalagin on the Physicochemical and Structural Properties of Wheat Flour Dough

open access: yesFoods, 2019
The study explored punicalagin (PGN) as a wheat flour enhancer. The impact of PGN on the physicochemical and structural properties of wheat flour have been investigated. It turned out that PGN increased the formation time, stability, tensile resistance, extension, and viscoelasticity of the dough at the concentrations of 0.13 and 0.26 mg/g.

Dual hypopigmentary effects of punicalagin via the ERK and Akt pathways

open access: yesBiomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, 2017
Punicalagin is a phenolic compound with antioxidant properties. However, the effects of punicalagin on melanin synthesis have been poorly evaluated. Therefore, we investigated the effects of punicalagin on melanogenesis in Mel-Ab cells. Punicalagin significantly inhibited melanin synthesis in a dose-dependent manner.

The Role of Punicalagin in Slowing Down the Decaying of Neurons

open access: yesMalaysian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2017
Punicalagin is an active compound found in the Pomegranate rind. The hallmark of the compound is its antioxidant properties which is more than most other sources such as Red wine. The poly-phenol donates hydrogen to free radicals like peroxynitrites and prevents it from oxidizing and destroying microglial cells in the brain.

Cognition enhancement of Punicalagin following intracerebroventricular injection of Aβ (25-35) model of mice: Cognition enhancement of Punicalagin

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biomedical and Advance Research, 2018
The hallmark in the pathology of Alzheimer disease is the deposition of amyloid plaques throughout the brain which lead to the deterioration of neuronal function and eventually they die. This damage spreads to hippocampus, region responsible for forming memories. This will ultimately lead to impairment in cognition.
