Syntheses of Pyrene-4,5-dione and Pyrene-4,5,9,10-tetraone
Improved gram scale synthesis procedures for the preparation of pyrene-4,5-dione and pyrene-4,5,9,10-tetraone are reported. Pyrene-4,5-dione has been synthesized using potassium persulfate as the oxidant and RuO2·nH2O as the catalyst in the biphasic CH2Cl2/H2O solvent mixture containing K2CO3 as the base.

Acetylene Semi‐Hydrogenation by Photocatalysis
Photocatalytic acetylene semi‐hydrogenation is an emerging light‐driven route to polymer‐grade ethylene, offering a mild alternative to energy‐intensive thermocatalysis. By replacing H2 co‐feed with water or other proton sources, these systems can achieve high selectivity under ambient conditions.

Plant‐based nanomaterials derived from alfalfa serve as dual‐function catalysts, coupling photodegradation and phytoremediation to degrade polyethylene under UV‐A light and in soil. The nanomaterials work synergistically with alfalfa and soil microbes, achieving efficient plastic breakdown without trophic transfer.

Supramolecular Mechanophore Additives Enable Mechanochromic Hydrogels
A supramolecular loop‐forming mechanophore featuring a quencher and an emitter is incorporated as a water‐soluble macromolecular additive into hydrogels. In the stress‐free state, intramolecular charge‐transfer interactions fold the loop and quench fluorescence.
