Benign by design: A paradigm shift in cosmetic ingredient development

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
Benign by design strategies enable the creation of biodegradable cosmetic ingredients, reducing environmental persistence while maintaining the intended biological activity. This work compiles design rules and tools to guide the development of more sustainable molecules for the cosmetics industry.

Dipyridinium 2,2′-dithiodinicotinate

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2009
The dianion of the title salt, 2C5H6N+·C12H6N2O4S22−, lies on a special position of 2 site symmetry that relates one thionicotinate part to the other, and the dihedral angle between the niotinate planes is 89.2 (2)°.

Selective photo labeling of tryptophan in N‐acetyl‐L‐tryptophan ethyl ester and peptide WWCNDGR with a diaryl nitrenium ion

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Visible light photolysis of a N‐(N,N‐diarylaminopyridinium) salt allows for covalent modification of a peptide. Mass spectrometry demonstrates that this procedure selectively labels tryptophan residues. Laser flash photolysis experiments show that bond formation occurs via a diarylnitrenium ion intermediate.

Synthetic and theoretical study on novel N-ylidic complexes of mercury as new antibacterial agents

open access: yesScientific Reports
The novel structure of Hg(II) complexes including the pyridinium ylide C5H5NCHC(O)C6H4-m-Br (Y) were synthesized and reported in this study. In the first step, the pyridinium salt C5H5NCH2C(O)C6H4-m-Br (S) was produced by reacting 2,3′-dibromoactophenone

Bis{2-[2,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-imidazol-4-yl]pyridinium} tetracyanidoplatinate(II) tetrahydrate

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2013
The asymmetric unit of the title hydrated complex salt, (C18H14N5)2[Pt(CN)4]·4H2O, consists of one 2-[2,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-imidazol-4-yl]pyridinium cation, half a tetracyanidoplatinate(II) dianion, which is located about a crystallographic ...

Heart‐Specific Spinal and Vagal Afferents: Transcriptomic Signatures and Optogenetically Modulated Functional Coupling With Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 4, August 2026.
Selective purification of heart‐specific spinal and vagal sensory neurons by retrograde labeling and FACS purification showed enhanced spontaneous, optogenetic, and chemically stimulated Ca2+ activity. Transcriptomic profiling identified distinct ion channel and GPCR signatures in heart‐specific sensory neurons.

Catalytic Functionalization of Unactivated π‐Bonds Enabled by Bidentate Directing Auxiliaries

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 28, 6 July 2026.
This review explores how bidentate directing auxiliaries have advanced transition‐metal catalysis for unactivated alkene/alkyne functionalization. By leveraging chelated intermediates, bidentate directing auxiliaries enable precise hydrofunctionalization, difunctionalization, and C─H activation of π‐bonds with unique selectivity and reactivity.

2-[(E)-2-(4-Chlorophenyl)ethenyl]-1-methylpyridinium 4-chlorobenzenesulfonate

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2009
In the title salt, C14H13ClN+·C6H4ClO3S−, the cation exists in an E configuration with respect to the ethynyl bond and is approximately planar, with a dihedral angle of 3.4 (2)° between the pyridinium and benzene ...

Deep Eutectic Solvent‐Type Mixture as a Green Catalyst in the Solvent‐Free Cycloaddition of CO2 and Epoxides

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 14, 29 July 2026.
A green, metal‐free catalytic system based on a deep eutectic solvent‐type mixture of tetrabutylammonium iodide and levulinic acid enables the solvent‐free cycloaddition of carbon dioxide (CO2) to epoxides. Cooperative acid–nucleophile activation affords cyclic carbonates in up to 95% yield at atmospheric pressure using only 1.4 mol% of catalyst.
