The effect of experimental hyperoxia on erythrocytes’ oxygen-transport function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of hyperoxia, calcium ions and pH value on the composition of major phospholipids in human erythrocyte membranes and erythrocytes’ oxygen-transport function. To create a model of hyperoxia, we saturated

Visualizing intramolecular distortions as the origin of transverse magnetic anisotropy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The magnetic properties of metal–organic complexes are strongly influenced by conformational changes in the ligand. The flexibility of Fe-tetra-pyridyl-porphyrin molecules leads to different adsorption configurations on a Au(111) surface.

Nano‐ and Micro‐Sized Solid Materials Used as Antiviral Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Due to the rise of viral infections in humans and possible viral outbreaks, the use of nano‐ or micro‐sized materials as antiviral agents is rapidly increasing. This review explores their antiviral properties against RNA and DNA viruses, either as a prevention or a treatment tool, by delving into their mechanisms of action and how to properly assess ...

Hair pyrrole adducts serve as biomarkers for peripheral nerve impairment induced by 2,5-hexanedione and n-hexane in rats.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Pyrrole adducts are specific reaction products of 2,5-hexadione (2,5-HD) in vivo and are considered highly relevant to the pathogenesis of peripheral nerve impairments after exposure to n-hexane, though the exact mechanism remains unclear. In this study,

Silicon containing electroconductive polymers and structures made therefrom [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
An electropolymerized film comprised of polymers and copolymers of a monomer is formed on the surface of an anode. The finished structures have superior electrical and mechanical properties for use in applications such as electrostatic dissipation and ...

Targeted Derepression of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Long Terminal Repeat by Pyrrole-Imidazole Polyamides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The host factor LSF represses the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 long terminal repeat (LTR) by mediating recruitment of histone deacetylase. We show that pyrrole-imidazole polyamides targeted to the LTR can specifically block LSF binding both in ...

Fabrication of Pyridinic Nitrogen‐Functionalized Carbon Cloth for High‐Performance Iron‐Chromium Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The carbon cloth electrode with targeted pyridinic nitrogen doping, achieved via urea pyrolysis, effectively modulates the adsorption of Cr(II) species and enhances electron transfer, leading to significantly improved kinetics of the Cr(II)/Cr(III) reaction. The material demonstrates a high discharge capacity of 689.3 mAh and an energy efficiency of 72.

2-(2,5-Dimethoxyphenyl)pyrrole-3-carbonitrile

open access: yesMolbank, 2023
The Cadogan reaction of 2-aryl-3-nitropyridines leads to δ-carbolines. The title compound is a side product in this reaction, generated via a ring opening of a nitrene and cyclization. A crystal structure analysis gives an enormous unit cell.

A mechanistic study on the phototoxicity of atorvastatin: singlet oxygen generation by a phenanthrene-like photoproduct [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Atorvastatin calcium (ATV) is one of the most frequently prescribed drugs worldwide. Among the adverse effects observed for this lipid-lowering agent, clinical cases of cutaneous adverse reactions have been reported and associated with photosensitivity ...

Pyrrole-protein adducts – A biomarker of pyrrolizidine alkaloid-induced hepatotoxicity

open access: yesJournal of Food and Drug Analysis, 2018
Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are phytotoxins identified in over 6000 plant species worldwide. Approximately 600 toxic PAs and PA N-oxides have been identified in about 3% flowering plants. PAs can cause toxicities in different organs particularly in the
