The pivotal role of β‐lactone stereochemistry in the development of SARS‐CoV‐2 Mpro inhibitors
Abstract From the arrival of the SARS‐CoV‐2 coronavirus in 2019 and its associated COVID‐19 pandemic, worldwide efforts have been focused on developing a drug to treat patients. The SARS‐CoV‐2 main protease (Mpro) is one of the main targets for drug design due to its key role in the virus replication and its distinguished ability to cleave peptides ...

Pyrrolidinones from the Ascomycete Fungus Albonectria rigidiuscula
The new pyrrolidinones, rigidiusculamides A−D (1−4), have been isolated from the crude extract of the ascomycete fungus Albonectria rigidiuscula. The structures of these compounds were elucidated primarily by NMR experiments.

Synthesis of the pyrrolidinone core of oxazolomycin A
This thesis describes the development of synthetic strategies towards the densely functionalised pyrrolidinone core of the polyene β-lactone-γ-lactam antibiotic oxazolomycin A. Chapter 1 The oxazolomycins The oxazolomycins, a unique class of biologically active molecules containing a spiro-fused β-lactone-γ-lactam ring system are introduced.

Sol‐gel synthesis is shown to produce Ni‐rich Li‐rich layered oxide cathodes with superior phase purity, crystallinity and reduced surface Li2CO3, yielding smaller homogeneous particles. These improvements translate into significantly enhanced electrochemical performance (~200 mAh g−1; 99.5% Coulombic efficiency; 80.6% capacity retention after 500 ...

Electroreductive Desulfurization of Thioacetals
A metal‐free electrochemical protocol enabled desulfurization of thioacetals under ambient conditions. Aryl substituents on sulfur act as internal electroauxiliaries to promote C(sp3)─S bond cleavage via a radical pathway, effectively serving as alternative to the Mozingo reduction.

MnCl2‐Catalyzed Photochemical Functionalization of Unactivated C(sp3)H Bonds
A photochemical method enables the activation of alkanes, utilizing cheap and abundant MnCl2 as the photocatalyst. Alkenylation and alkylation reactions are performed, affording the desired products in good yields. Activation of inert C(sp3)H bonds is of great importance in organic synthesis, since it can functionalize unreactive molecules, such as ...
