Preliminary analysis of two selected genomic regions of Buchnera aphidicola BCc, the primary endosymbiont of the cedar aphid Cinara cedri, has revealed a number of interesting features when compared with the corresponding homologous regions of the three ...

Radical-free hyperpolarized MRI using endogenously-occurring pyruvate analogues and UV-induced nonpersistent radicals [PDF]
It was demonstrated that nonpersistent radicals can be generated in frozen solutions of metabolites such as pyruvate by irradiation with ultraviolet (UV) light, enabling radical-free dissolution DNP. Although pyruvate is endogenous, an excess of additional pyruvate may perturb metabolic processes, making it potentially unsuitable as a polarizing agent ...

Effect of the hydrogenation solvent in the PHIP-SAH hyperpolarization of [1- 13 C]pyruvate [PDF]
ParaHydrogen Induced Polarization-Side Arm Hydrogenation (PHIP-SAH) is an inexpensive tool to obtain hyperpolarized pyruvate (and other metabolites) that can be applied to in-vivo diagnostics, for the investigation of metabolic processes. This method is based on hydrogenation, using hydrogen enriched in the para-isomer, of unsaturated substrates ...

Skeletal muscle energy metabolism in environmental hypoxia: climbing towards consensus. [PDF]
Skeletal muscle undergoes metabolic remodelling in response to environmental hypoxia, yet aspects of this process remain controversial. Broadly, environmental hypoxia has been suggested to induce: (i) a loss of mitochondrial density; (ii) a substrate ...

Using machine learning techniques to predict hospital admission at the emergency department [PDF]
Introduction: One of the most important tasks in the Emergency Department (ED) is to promptly identify the patients who will benefit from hospital admission. Machine Learning (ML) techniques show promise as diagnostic aids in healthcare. Material and methods: We investigated the following features seeking to investigate their performance in predicting ...

A Metabolite Specific 3D Stack-of-Spiral bSSFP Sequence for Improved Lactate Imaging in Hyperpolarized [1-$^{13}$C]Pyruvate Studies on a 3T Clinical Scanner [PDF]
Purpose: The balanced steady-state free precession sequence has been previously explored to improve the efficient use of non-recoverable hyperpolarized $^{13}$C magnetization, but suffers from poor spectral selectivity and long acquisition time. The purpose of this study was to develop a novel metabolite-specific 3D bSSFP ("MS-3DSSFP") sequence with ...

Transcriptome analysis of an oil-rich race B strain of Botryococcus braunii (BOT-22) by de novo assembly of pyrosequencing cDNA reads [PDF]
To gain genetic insights into the biosynthesis of botryococcene oils in Botryococcus braunii race B, a transcriptome dataset of the BOT-22 strain containing 27,427 non-redundant sequences assembled from 209,429 complementary DNA reads was obtained via ...

Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.
