Sterols in species of Pythium

Archiv fr Mikrobiologie, 1969
Analysis by gas chromatography revealed the presence of small amounts of squalene, but not lanosterol nor ergosterol in Pythium paroecandrum, P. ultimum, P. graminicola, and P. arrhenomonas. However, when acetate-14C was used as a precursor for sterols, even squalene was not found in P. graminicola.

Pythium wilt of lettuce caused by Pythium uncinulatum in Japan

Journal of General Plant Pathology, 2010
Pythium wilt of lettuce was found in two fields in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan in January 2007. On the basis of morphological characteristics and the rDNA-ITS sequences, the causal organism was identified as Pythium uncinulatum, unknown in Japan. A pot inoculation test demonstrated that P.

Homothallism in Pythium

Mycologia, 1939
Investigations on the nature of the thallus in the Peronosporales have been confined to Phytophthora and Peronospora, in both of which complicated conditions exist within a single species. Studies on the sexual relations of species of Pythium with single zo6spore cultures have not been reported. Long cultural experience with the genus Pythium, however,

Pythium rot of chingensai ( Brassica campestris L. chinensis group) caused by Pythium ultimum var. ultimum and Pythium aphanidermatum

Journal of General Plant Pathology, 2004
Severe rot was found at the base of leaves and stems of chingensai (Brassica campestris L. chinensis group) in Okayama Prefecture in 2000. The causal fungi were morphologically identified as Pythium ultimum Trow var. ultimum and P. aphanidermatum (Edson) Fitzpatrick. This is the first report of rot caused by Pythium species on chingensai. We named this

Antagonistic Pythium against pathogenic Pythium on cucumber roots1

EPPO Bulletin, 1988
Antagonistic microorganisms introduced into the growing medium, the seed or the root, have been shown to reduce the attack of many soil‐borne plant pathogenic fungi. In 1983, three experiments with Pythium oligandrum were carried out using cucumber seedlings artificially inoculated with Pythium splendens. The seedlings cv.
