Analogue experimental investigation on ligament granulation of molten slag in various rotary disk configurations for waste energy recovery

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2018
Rotary disk centrifugal granulation is one of the most promising methods for molten slag recovery with lower power consumption, compact and coupling with a variety of waste heat devices easily.

Tableaux combinatorics for two-species PASEP probabilities [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2015
The goal of this paper is to provide a combinatorial expression for the steady state probabilities of the twospecies PASEP. In this model, there are two species of particles, one “heavy” and one “light”, on a one-dimensional finite lattice with open ...

Individual aerosol particles from biomass burning in southern Africa: 1. Compositions and size distributions of carbonaceous particles

open access: yes, 2003
Individual aerosol particles in smoke plumes from biomass fires and in regional hazes in southern Africa were studied using analytical transmission electron microscopy ( TEM), which allowed detailed characterization of carbonaceous particle types in ...

How Classical Particles Emerge from the Quantum World. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The symmetrization postulates of quantum mechanics (symmetry for bosons, antisymmetry for fermions) are usually taken to entail that quantum particles of the same kind (e.g., electrons) are all in exactly the same state and therefore indistinguishable in

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Search for heavy long-lived multicharged particles in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV using the ATLAS detector

open access: yes, 2019
A search for heavy long-lived multicharged particles is performed using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Data with an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb-1 collected in 2015 and 2016 from proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV are examined.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
