The Effect of Carbon Pricing on Firm Emissions: Evidence from the Swedish CO2 Tax
Sweden was one of the first countries to introduce a carbon tax back in 1991. We assemble a unique data set tracking CO2 emissions from Swedish manufacturing firms over 26 years to estimate the impact of carbon pricing on firm-level emission ...

A set of three cysteine‐derived hydroxamic acids were synthesized and evaluated for human gloxalase‐1 inhibition and ferroptosis induction activities. Among them, compound 2 exhibited a potent inhibitory effect against human glyoxalase‐1 and induced ferroptosis in non‐small cell lung cancer cell lines, increasing reactive oxygen species production and ...

Amyloid Forming Human Lysozyme Intermediates are Stabilized by Non‐Native Amide‐π Interactions
Mutational variants of human lysozyme cause fatal systemic amyloidosis by depositing kilograms of protein in the viscera of patients. Central to this process is a partially unfolded protein intermediate state that initiates aggregation into amyloid fibrils.

We assess the US Clean Air Act standards for fine particulate matter (PM2.5). Using high-resolution data, we find that the 2005 regulation reduced PM2.5 levels by 0.4 μg/m3 over five years, with larger effects in more polluted areas.

Abstract Understanding the functions and evolution of specificity‐determining residues is essential for improving strategies to predict and design enzyme functions. Whether the function of an amino acid residue is retained during evolution depends on intramolecular epistasis, which occurs when the same residue contributes to different phenotypes in ...

Money (Not) to Burn: Payments for Ecosystem Services to Reduce Crop Residue Burning
We test whether payments for ecosystem services (PES) can curb the highly polluting practice of crop residue burning in India. Standard PES contracts pay participants after verification that they met a proenvironment condition (clearing fields without ...
