Independent leaf and root responses to autumn freezing in perennial herbs: Insights from cutting and transplant manipulations

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
In this study, we compared two sampling approaches to assess autumn freezing resistance. Our goal was to determine whether the commonly employed cutting method, which disrupts root‐tissue connectivity, provides a valid measure of true freezing resistance.

Table_1_Comprehensive analysis of grazing intensity impacts alpine grasslands across the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau: A meta-analysis.docx

open access: yes, 2023
Livestock grazing is a dominant practice in alpine grasslands and plays a crucial role in the ecosystem service of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. The effects of grazing on alpine grasslands highly depends on grazing intensity.

Degradation of Seasonally Frozen Ground in the Three–River Source Region and Its Correlation Impact Within Precipitation–Runoff Process

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study reveals how climate change alters the water cycle in the Three Rivers Source region by degrading its important ‘solid groundwater’ (seasonally frozen ground). We found that runoff response varies by watershed and the role of permafrost decreases sharply, making water supply more dependent on rainfall and becoming increasingly vulnerable ...

Suitable exclosure duration for the restoration of degraded alpine grasslands on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau

open access: yes, 2019
Exclosures erected to prevent grazing have been widely adopted as a measure for the recovery of degraded grasslands. Many studies have explored the effects of exclosure use on vegetation and soil; these studies, however, were carried out over relatively ...

Analyzing the Suitability and Quality of Potato Varieties (lines) from Qinghai Province for the Production of Fried Potato Fries

open access: yesLiang you shipin ke-ji
The objective of this study was to assess the differences in the quality of fried potato fries across various potato varieties (lines) in Qinghai Province, as well as to identify suitable potato varieties (lines) for the production of fried potato fries.

Detecting Plateau Zokor (Eospalax baileyi) Mounds in UAV Imagery of Alpine Meadows Using Deep Learning Algorithms

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
We developed PZM‐YOLO to automatically detect plateau zokor mounds in UAV imagery of alpine meadows. The model achieved reliable detection of small and densely distributed mounds under complex backgrounds, outperforming the baseline YOLOv5s. This framework supports mound counting, mound position, rodent impact assessment, and grassland restoration ...

Hypoglycemic Effects of Silphium perfoliatum L. In Vitro and In Vivo and Its Active Composition Identification by UPLC-Triple-TOF-MS/MS

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
Background: Reducing postprandial blood glucose (PBG) is a crucial strategy for treating diabetes and minimizing the risk of complications. Developing efficient and safe α-glycosidase inhibitors from natural products to lower PBG has attracted much ...

Mechanism of Damage and Micro‐Characterisation of Irradiation‐Induced Free Radicals on the Epoxy Insulation of the Bridge Arm Reactors at High Altitude

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Damage degradation of epoxy resin insulating materials by free radicals triggered by the ultraviolet irradiation environment at high altitude has become a key issue that restricts the reliability of the bridge arm reactor at high altitude.

Transcriptional Profiling and Key Enzyme Activity of Epichloë sinensis Isolated from Festuca sinensis in Response to Na2SeO3

open access: yesFermentation
Fungal endophytes exhibit symbiotic relationships with their host plants and convert inorganic selenium to organoselenium and Se0. In order to elucidate how Epichloë sinensis from Festuca sinensis adapts to different concentrations of sodium selenate ...

Nitrogen addition alters adaptive strategies of a dominant plant species in an alpine meadow via shifts in traits and trait coordination

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Nitrogen (N) deposition significantly impacts plant functional traits in alpine meadows, yet the adaptive strategies of dominant species remain unclear. Understanding these strategies is crucial for predicting alpine grassland vegetation changes and ecosystem ...
