Genomic and Functional Characterization of qnr-Encoding Plasmids from Municipal Wastewater Biosolid Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolates

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
Municipal wastewater treatment facilities are considered to be “hotspots” for antibiotic resistance, since they conjoin high densities of environmental and fecal bacteria with selective pressure in the form of sub-therapeutic concentrations of ...

Resistance to third-generation cephalosporins and quinolones in Escherichia coli isolated from broiler chicken feces and carcasses at slaughter in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil

open access: yesCiência Rural
: Escherichia coli is a significant component of the poultry intestinal microbiota and a critical indicator of antimicrobial resistance. This study investigated the antimicrobial susceptibility and the presence of cephalosporin and quinolone resistance ...

Antimicrobial Effect of Spices and Their Phytochemicals: A Novel Approach to Overcoming Antibiotic Resistance

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2026.
This graphical abstract shows the antibacterial potential of phytochemicals from 15 spices, showcasing key compounds, their extraction methods, and mechanisms of action. It highlights membrane disruption, ROS generation, enzyme inhibition, and biofilm prevention as core antibacterial pathways.

A longitudinal epidemiology study of fluoroquinolone-nonsusceptible Klebsiella pneumoniae reveals an increasing prevalence of qnrB and qnrS in Taiwan

open access: yesJournal of Infection and Public Health
Background: Our objective was to investigate the prevalence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) genes in fluoroquinolone-nonsusceptible Klebsiella pneumoniae (FQNSKP) in Taiwan, 1999–2022.

Highly Enhanced Directional Emission from Emitter‐Integrated Dielectric Metasurfaces: Role of the Emitter Layer

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2026.
Highly enhanced directional emission with narrow angular divergence is experimentally demonstrated from InP/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) and CdSe/ZnS QD‐integrated dielectric metasurfaces. The low intrinsic losses of the InP/ZnS QD layer enable significantly higher emission enhancement when the two QD types are coated on the same metasurface.

Detection of plasmid-mediated qnr genes among the quinolone-resistant Escherichia coli isolates in Iran.

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2014
INTRODUCTION Plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance, which complicates treatment, has been increasingly identified in Escherichia coli isolates worldwide.

Plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance in expanded spectrum beta lactamase producing enterobacteriaceae in Morocco

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2010
Introduction: Although independently acquired, plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance appears to be linked with extended-spectrum or AmpC-type beta-lactamases.

Antibiotic Resistance and Pathogenicity of Vibrio Species in Aquaculture: Implications for Fish Health and Food Safety in LMICs

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
Pathogenic Vibrio species isolated from aquaculture environments in low‐ and middle‐income countries exhibit elevated antimicrobial resistance and multiple virulence traits. These findings highlight significant risks to fish health and food safety, underscoring the need for strengthened antimicrobial stewardship, robust biosecurity measures and ...

Antimicrobial Resistance in Salmonella Across Aquaculture, Seafood and Related Aquatic Environments: A Scoping Review With Exploratory Textual Analysis

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 2, March 2026.
This scoping review with textual analysis maps antimicrobial resistance in Salmonella across aquaculture, seafood, and related aquatic environments. Across 93 studies, recurrent MDR patterns suggest sentinel serotypes (S. Typhimurium, S. Newport) and a minimal antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) panel to guide matrix‐stratified One Health ...

Determination of Pentapeptide Repeat Units in Qnr Proteins by the Structure-Based Alignment Approach [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2011
ABSTRACT The Qnr proteins belong to the pentapeptide repeat protein family. Despite each pentapeptide repeat unit being an important structural determinant, accurately determining pentapeptide repeat units in the Qnr proteins through sequence-based alignments has been challenging.
