Evidence for a quadruplex structure in the polymorphic hs1.2 enhancer of the immunoglobulin heavy chain 3’ regulatory regions and its conservation in mammals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Regulatory regions in the genome can act through a variety of mechanisms that range from the occurrence of histone modifications to the presence of protein-binding loci for self-annealing sequences.

DNA and RNA Quadruplex ligands [PDF]

open access: yesNucleic Acids Symposium Series, 2008
Guanine-rich nucleic acids can adopt unusual structures called guanine quadruplexes (G4) based on stacked guanine quartets. Both RNA and DNA backbones are compatible with G4 formation. As RNA and DNA quadruplexes may be recognized by ligands, it is important to understand the rules that govern the stability and specificity of these complexes.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

The cellular protein nucleolin preferentially binds long-looped G-quadruplex nucleic acids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
open5noBACKGROUND: G-quadruplexes (G4s) are four-stranded nucleic acid structures that form in G-rich sequences. Nucleolin (NCL) is a cellular protein reported for its functions upon G4 recognition, such as induction of neurodegenerative diseases, tumor

Polyelectrolyte effects in G-quadruplexes [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Chemistry, 2013
The role of counterion condensation as a dominant force governing the stability of DNA duplexes and triplexes is well established. In contrast, the effect of counterion condensation on the stability of G-quadrupex conformations is poorly understood. Unlike other ordered nucleic acid structures, G-quadruplexes exhibit a specific binding of counterions ...

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

DNA Base Excision Repair Intermediates Influence Duplex–Quadruplex Equilibrium

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
Although genomic DNA is predominantly duplex under physiological conditions, particular sequence motifs can favor the formation of alternative secondary structures, including the G-quadruplex.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Aminoglycosylation can enhance the G-quadruplex binding activity of epigallocatechin. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
With the aim of enhancing G-quadruplex binding activity, two new glucosaminosides (16, 18) of penta-methylated epigallocatechin were synthesized by chemical glycosylation.

Synthesis of copper (II) porphyrin complexes and their interaction with c-myc G-quadruplex DNA

open access: yesJournal of Holistic Integrative Pharmacy, 2021
Objective: To synthesize copper (II) porphyrin complexes and study their interactions with c-myc G-quadruplex DNA. Methods: The 5-p-hydroxyphenyl-10, 15, 20-tris (p-methoxyphenyl) copper (II) porphyrin complex [p-HTMOPPCu (II)] was synthesized by the ...
