A Roadmap for Breeding Sweet Tomatoes
This graphical abstract outlines four breeding strategies for enhancing sugar content and sweetness in tomato fruits: (1) Identification of key genes and functional variant loci regulating fruit sugar accumulation through systematic germplasm collection, genome‐wide association studies (GWAS), map‐based cloning, and reverse genetics approaches.

Abstract Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), a foundation of global food security, faces persistent threats from stripe rust caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst). The pathogen thrives in cool and humid environments and regularly causes epidemics that lead to severe yield losses.

Abstract Drought is a critical challenge to wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) productivity. The quantitative complexity of drought tolerance makes breeding for this trait difficult. Developing near‐isogenic lines (NILs) targeting quantitative trait locus (QTL) for 1000‐grain weight (TGW) under drought stress can effectively identify key mechanisms and genes.

Abstract Ensuring superior quality is of paramount objective in modern rice (Oryza sativa L.) breeding program and investigating quality traits is crucial for developing superior rice varieties. The current study aimed for identifying single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and potential candidate genes for eleven quality traits, namely, hulling ...

Abstract Rice (Oryza sativa) is an important staple food, feeding more than half of the global population. A feasible improvement of rice yield is necessary to meet the ever–growing food demands. Genomic selection (GS), as an advanced breeding technique, enables the prediction of phenotypes solely based on genotypic data using a constructed genomic ...
