This article presents two variants of memoryless quasi-Newton methods with backtracking line search for large-scale unconstrained minimization. These updating methods are derived by means of a least-change updating strategy subjected to some weaker form ...

Pit lakes in semiarid and arid regions are often assumed to be terminal sinks for groundwater following mine closure. Using synthetic numerical modeling, we demonstrate that evaporation‐driven density gradients can reverse this behavior, transforming pit lakes into throughflow systems and potentially increasing salinity in adjacent aquifers.

Discharge‐Targeted Hydraulic Tomography to Quantify and Locate Aquifer Discharge
Abstract Quantifying and localizing groundwater discharge is inherently difficult. It requires knowledge about hydraulic conductivity and the hydraulic gradient on the scale of interest. Conventional hydraulic testing, such as pumping tests, may fail in the presence of heterogeneity and complex structural boundaries.

Quasi-Newton's method with correction
The problem of solving a system of nonlinear equations \(F(x) = 0\), where \(F:\mathbb{R}^n \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^n\) is a nonlinear mapping of a special form \(F(x) = Ax + G(x)\) with linear part \(A \in \mathbb{R}^{n,n}\) and nonlinear part \(G:\mathbb{R}^n \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^n\), is considered.

Heterogeneity in Manufacturing Growth Risk
Abstract We analyze differences in output growth risk with respect to financial conditions across U.S. manufacturing industries. Using a multilevel quantile regression approach, we find that industries exhibit heterogeneous increases of downside risk in times of tight financial conditions, while upside potential remains stable.

Abstract Objective To determine and compare the fixation strength of conjunctival pedicle flaps to cornea achieved via conventional ophthalmic suture and three different adhesive compounds. Animals Studied Ex vivo porcine globes. Procedures Following a 6 mm wide 500‐micron‐restricted depth lamellar keratectomy, conjunctival pedicle flaps were secured ...

Non-asymptotic study of quasi-Newton methods with application in large-scale machine learning
Quasi-Newton methods are among popular optimization algorithms for solving convex programs since they serve as a middle ground between first-order methods and second-order Newton-type algorithms.
