We present the discovery of two low-mass, high-redshift quiescent galaxies, GS-z5-Q1 and COS-z5-Q1, using JWST NIRSpec spectroscopy alongside NIRCam and MIRI photometry.

Out There No One Has a Right to Die
ABSTRACT The eventual goal of space exploration is to colonize exoplanets and their moons outside our solar system. This is a dangerous and immoral endeavour. The extraterrestrial life forms encountered would be hostile, vulnerable or both, and the descendants of the original pioneers would be involuntarily exposed to hazardous conditions and ...

Gravitational lenses can magnify distant galaxies, allowing us to discover and characterize the stellar populations of intrinsically faint, quiescent galaxies that are otherwise extremely difficult to directly observe at high redshift from ground-based ...

Which Came First: Supermassive Black Holes or Galaxies? Insights from JWST [PDF]
Insights from JWST observations suggest that active galactic nuclei feedback evolved from a short-lived, high-redshift phase in which radiatively cooled turbulence and/or momentum-conserving outflows stimulated vigorous early star formation (“positive ...

ABSTRACT Making sense of the world often requires one to come up with new ideas, including ideas one had previously been unable to think of. How and when should this be done? I propose and defend a norm of rationality linking wondering, belief, and abilities to conceive: one must not both wonder a question and reject all answers to it that one can ...

Galaxy Zoo: evidence for rapid, recent quenching within a population of AGN host galaxies [PDF]
We present a population study of the star formation history of 1244 Type 2 AGN host galaxies, compared to 6107 inactive galaxies. A Bayesian method is used to determine individual galaxy star formation histories, which are then collated to visualise the distribution for quenching and quenched galaxies within each population.

A new population of recently quenched elliptical galaxies in the SDSS [PDF]
We use the Sloan Digital Sky Survey to investigate the properties of massive elliptical galaxies in the local Universe (z\leq0.08) that have unusually blue optical colors.

Innovation Diffusion Among Case‐Based Decision‐Makers
ABSTRACT This paper analyzes a model of innovation diffusion with case‐based individuals a la Gilboa and Schmeidler, who decide whether to consume an incumbent or a new product based on their and their social neighbors' previous consumption experiences. I analyze how diffusion patterns change with individual characteristics, innovation characteristics,

On the Origin of Quenched but Gas-rich Regions at Kiloparsec Scales in Nearby Galaxies
We use resolved spectroscopy from MaNGA to investigate the significance of both local and global properties of galaxies to the cessation of star formation at kpc scales.
