Microwave structure of the quiet sun

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1988
Two-frequency VLA observations of the quiet sun were obtained on July 13, 1985. Although the 4.9 GHz full-day synthesis maps correspond closely to images made in H-alpha, Ca II K, and magnetograms, the correspondence is much less apparent on shorter time scale maps, and it is suggested that the discrepancy is due to nearly continual variations in the ...

HOMOLOGOUS CYCLONES IN THE QUIET SUN

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2014
Through observations with the Solar Dynamics Observatory Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) and Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager, we tracked one rotating network magnetic field (RNF) near the solar equator. It lasted for more than 100 hr, from 2013 February 23 to 28. During its evolution, three cyclones were found to be rooted in this structure.

Probing Lorentz Invariance Violation with Absorption of Astrophysical γ-Rays by Solar Photons

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We compute in detail the absorption optical depth for astrophysical γ -ray photons interacting with solar photons to produce electron–positron pairs. This effect is greatest for γ -ray sources at small angular distances from the Sun, reaching optical ...

What Can DKIST/DL-NIRSP Tell Us about Quiet-Sun Magnetism?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Quiet-Sun regions cover most of the Sun's surface; their magnetic fields contribute significantly to solar chromospheric and coronal heating. However, characterizing the magnetic fields of the quiet Sun is challenging due to their weak polarization ...

Quiet Sun Magnetism from ViSP Data Multiline Inversions Around 630.1 nm

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Quiet Sun magnetism plays an important role in the global energy balance of the solar atmosphere. The study of the magnetism of the quiet Sun has been a major effort in the last decades, and, as a result, very important advances in our knowledge have ...

Long-lived particles and the quiet Sun

open access: yesPhysical Review D
The nuclear reaction network within the interior of the Sun is an efficient MeV physics factory and can produce long-lived particles generic to dark sector models. In this work we consider the sensitivity of satellite instruments, primarily the RHESSI spectrometer, that observe the quiet Sun in the MeV regime where backgrounds are low.

Can We Distinguish the Source Region Location of Filament/Prominence Eruptions from the Sun-as-a-star Hα Spectrum?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Solar filament/prominence eruptions can significantly perturb geospace when originating from favorable source locations and directions. While stellar analogs have been recently reported, the disk locations and magnetic environments of their source ...

Global disturbance of Earth’s magnetosphere and its connection with space weather

open access: yesSolar-Terrestrial Physics, 2020
This paper deals with extreme conditions of the global magnetosphere disturbance: very quiet and greatly disturbed, and their relationship with interplanetary medium parameters.
