Key practices for ethical research during scientific expeditions

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 10, October 2026.
In many cases, expeditionary practices undermined local knowledge and expertise. This perspective advocates for a shift from parachute science towards a collaborative research approach. We reflect on and suggest best practices during scientific expeditions within research teams and in the team's interactions with different communities.

Postnatal developmental changes in the laryngeal chemosensory cell clusters of rats

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 249, Issue 4, Page 769-786, October 2026.
Chemosensory cell clusters appeared in the rat larynx 2 days after birth and were already connected to afferent nerve fibers. Their number increased until 3 weeks of age, then stabilized while continuing to grow through the addition of new cells. Because their number reached a plateau around the time of weaning, their development may be linked to ...

Is Capsaicin Effective in Relieving the Symptoms of Burning Mouth Syndrome? A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 53, Issue 10, Page 1985-1996, October 2026.
The capsaicin, administered topically or systemically, reduces pain symptoms in patients with Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS). However, despite consistent clinical improvement, the current evidence is limited and of low certainty, highlighting the need for well‐designed studies to confirm its effectiveness. ABSTRACT Background Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS)

Towards optimal regimens of parenteral quinine for young African children with cerebral malaria: the importance of unbound quinine concentration.

open access: yes, 1993
Young African children with severe malaria are given quinine using a regimen designed for Thai adults. We measured quinine in the blood, plasma and plasma water of young children in Kenya after rapid intravenous and intramuscular dosing, and calculated ...

Asymmetric Synthesis of Tertiary α‐Aryl Stereocentres in Tetrahydro‐4H‐pyran‐4‐ones Using Pd‐Catalyzed Decarboxylative Asymmetric Protonation

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 29, Issue 36, 24 September 2026.
The Pd‐catalyzed decarboxylative asymmetric protonation (DAP) has been developed for sterically hindered tetrahydro‐4H‐pyran‐4‐one derived α‐aryl‐β‐keto esters. A substrate scope of nine examples of DAP showed that substrates containing a di‐ortho methoxy substitution pattern on the aryl ring gave rise to the highest enantioselectivities of up to 85 ...
