Crystal Structures of a Quorum-quenching Antibody [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Molecular Biology, 2007
A large number of Gram-negative bacteria employ N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs) as signaling molecules in quorum sensing, which is a population density-dependent mechanism to coordinate gene expression. Antibody RS2-1G9 was elicited against a lactam mimetic of the N-acyl homoserine lactone and represents the only reported monoclonal antibody that ...

Structural and Biochemical Characterization of AidC, a Quorum-Quenching Lactonase With Atypical Selectivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Quorum-quenching catalysts are of interest for potential application as biochemical tools for interrogating interbacterial communication pathways, as antibiofouling agents, and as anti-infective agents in plants and animals.

Quorum quenching quandary: resistance to antivirulence compounds [PDF]

open access: yesThe ISME Journal, 2011
Abstract Quorum sensing (QS) is the regulation of gene expression in response to the concentration of small signal molecules, and its inactivation has been suggested to have great potential to attenuate microbial virulence. It is assumed that unlike antimicrobials, inhibition of QS should cause less Darwinian selection pressure for ...

Inflammatory and Immunological Basis of Periodontal Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
The periodontal lesion emerges as an evolving immunological battlefield, where host–microbiome interactions, dysregulated immune responses, fragile resolution mechanisms, and inflammophilic dysbiosis converge to shift the balance from homeostasis to unrestrained tissue destruction.

Irradiation‐Resistant Heterostructures Based on Monolayer MoS2

open access: yesphysica status solidi (a), Volume 223, Issue 6, 20 March 2026.
Atomic vacancies can significantly affect monolayer molybdenum disulfide (1L‐MoS2) properties, but the effects of electron irradiation are still poorly understood. A significant resistance to 0.5 MeV electron irradiation was observed for 1L‐MoS2 exfoliated on gold or grown on SiO2.

The effects of antibiotics on the microbiome throughout development and alternative approaches for therapeutic modulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The widespread use of antibiotics in the past 80 years has saved millions of human lives, facilitated technological progress and killed incalculable numbers of microbes, both pathogenic and commensal.

Incorporation of MoO3 Nanoparticles Into Polypropylene Fibers via Melt Spinning: Investigation of Mechanical, Thermal, and Chromic Properties

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 11, March 15, 2026.
Pure PP and PP/MoO 3 filaments produced by melt spinning. ABSTRACT Polypropylene (PP) composite fibers containing 0.10, 0.20, and 0.50 wt% molybdenum oxide (MoO 3 ) nanoparticles were produced via melt spinning. In the present study, the effect of this addition on the mechanical, thermal, and chromic properties of the fibers was investigated.

Biotic inactivation of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa quinolone signal molecule [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In Pseudomonas aeruginosa, quorum sensing (QS) regulates the production of secondary metabolites, many of which are antimicrobials that impact on polymicrobial community composition.
