A Correlation‐Based Prediction Method of Heat Transfer Coefficients for Flooded Evaporation on Enhanced Tubes

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, Volume 97, Issue 1-2, Page 43-50, February 2025.
An enhanced tube which is optimized for pool boiling was examined with the refrigerants R134a, R1234ze(E), and propane. The measured heat transfer coefficient is compared to literature‐based correlations and also the transferability. For a better prediction of the shell‐side heat transfer coefficient a new correlation is proposed.

Experimental analysis of R-450A and R-513A as replacements of R-134a and R-507A in a medium temperature commercial refrigeration system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This work presents the experimental evaluation of R-513A (GWP = 573) and R-450A (GWP = 547) as R-134a (GWP = 1301) drop-in replacements and as R-507A (GWP = 3987) retrofits in a commercial direct expansion refrigeration system for medium temperature ...

Performance Investigation of an Automotive Hybrid Air-Conditioning System without and with an Internal Heat Exchanger (IHX) using R1234ze(E) as Substitute for R134a

open access: yesInternational Journal of Automotive Science and Technology
In recent years, there is a growing attention drawn to the area of the technology of combined power/refrigeration cycle, due to its high capability in energy saving. In this study, tow automotive hybrid air-conditioning systems without (ORC–ACS) and with

Energy analysis of a solar driven vaccine refrigerator using environment-friendly refrigerants for off-grid locations

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management: X, 2021
In many remote localities, one of the underlying reasons for not receiving life-saving vaccines is the lack of electricity to store the vaccines in the required refrigerated conditions.

Pool boiling of R515A, R1234ze(E), and R1233zd(E) on a reentrant cavity surface

open access: yesInternational Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2020
Abstract This paper quantifies the pool boiling performance of R515A, R1234ze(E), and R1233zd(E) on a flattened, horizontal Turbo-ESP surface for air-conditioning. The measured boiling curve for R515A had roughly a 14 % larger heat flux than that of R1234ze(E) for heat fluxes greater than 45 kWm−2. For heat fluxes between 14 kWm−2 and 85 kWm−2, R515A

Experimental study of an R1234ze(E)/R134a mixture (R450A) as R134a replacement [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Refrigeration, 2015
This work presents an experimental analysis of a non-flammable R1234ze(E)/R134a mixture (R450A) as R134a drop-in replacement. While R134a has a high GWP value (1430), the R450A GWP is only 547. The experimental tests are carried out in a vapour compression plant equipped with a variable-speed compressor.

Performance of Heat Pump Air Conditioning with R1234ze (HFO) as a Refrigerant

open access: yesJournal of Optimization, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
The study shows that refrigerants R1234ze (E) and R1234ze (Z), known for their low global warming potential, are likely to become primary choices in heat pump air conditioning for residential and commercial use. The research evaluates the thermodynamic properties of R1234ze (Z) using experimental, thermodynamic, and numerical analyses.

Organic rankine cycle modelling and the ORCmKit library: analysis of R1234ze(Z) as drop-in replacement of R245fa for low-grade waste heat recovery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Due to the wide interest in organic Rankine cycles (ORCs) as a sustainable technology and the importance of numerical analyses and optimization procedures while considering such systems, we created a dedicated open-source library named “ORC modelling Kit”

Performance of Transcritical CO2 Air-source Heat Pump Heating System with Mechanical Subcooling Using Zeotropic Refrigerant

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2021
In this study, a mechanical subcooling transcritical CO2 heat pump heating system using a zeotropic refrigerant is proposed. A thermodynamic model is developed for this system and compared with that using a pure refrigerant. The results indicate that the
