Radar performance validation with simulation

2014 International Radar Conference, 2014
This paper explains how simulation can contribute to the airborne radars qualification. Thales Airborne Systems has developed a wide range of the simulation tools over the last few years and a new method called “Smart Qualification” is now deployed within the company. This method and these tools have demonstrated their efficiency.

Performance of Foundation for Altair Radar

Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1971
The foundation for the ALTAIR antenna is a ring beam with a diameter of 118 ft, founded upon coral sand. Loads are applied to the foundation at four points; these points move around the beam as the antenna rotates. Differential motion of the ring beam caused by the moving loads must be less than 0.03 in.

Radar Echoes from Birds and their Effects on Radar Performance

1976
The first observation of a radar echo from a bird was apparently that made with the 200-MHz XAF radar on the U.S.S. New York off Puerto Rico in 1939. A number of reports of radar echoes due to birds were made subsequently during World War II, and by 1957–58 radar was being used to study bird migration.

Prediction of Pulse Radar Performance

Proceedings of the IRE, 1956
A method of calculating the range performance of a pulse radar is presented which is simple, yet which leads to more consistent results than do other methods commonly used. The factors entering into the calculation are discussed in detail, and graphs are given which greatly simplify the procedure.

High-Performance Weather Radar

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1965
A maser preamplifier designed into an X-band weather radar set AN/ MPS-34 increased the radar's sensitivity by 12.5 dB to an over-all 118.5 dBm. Many low-performance, obsoleted sets could be converted to a high-performance system through the inclusion of a maser.

Radar System Performance Charts

IEEE Transactions on Military Electronics, 1965
The fundamental limits to radar performance in search and tracking can be expressed on three charts, in terms of products involving transmitted power, antenna gain, and effective aperture area. Locations of past and present radar systems on these charts disclose evolutionary trends in system design and indicate regions of practical and economic balance

Radar detection performance calculations

2013
An important application of the understanding of sea clutter developed in Chapters 2-4 is the prediction of radar detection performance. While many of the phenomena associated with sea clutter are not understood in detail in physical terms, empirically derived statistical models do provide us with the means with which we might calculate detection ...
