UHF electromagnetic emission stimulated by HF pumping of the ionosphere
[PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2002
UHF electromagnetic emission (with a frequency near 600 MHz) from the F-region of the ionosphere pumped by an HF powerful radio wave is revealed. Possible mechanisms of the emission excitation, such as plasma mode con-version, scattering or Earth ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Effects on the Surface and Luminescence Properties of GaAs by SF6 Plasma Passivation

open access: yesCrystals, 2018
The passivation effects of the SF6 plasma on a GaAs surface has been investigated by using the radio frequency (RF) plasma method. The RF’s power, chamber pressure, and plasma treatment time are optimized by photoluminescence (PL), atomic force ...

Concept Study of Radio Frequency (RF) Plasma Thruster for Space Propulsion [PDF]

open access: yesINCAS Bulletin, 2016
Electric thrusters are capable of accelerating ions to speeds that are impossible to reach using chemical reaction. Recent advances in plasma-based concepts have led to the identification of electromagnetic (RF) generation and acceleration systems as ...

Development of an uncompensated diagnostic for the measurement of phase-resolved characteristics in radio-frequency plasmas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In recent years, plasma technology has found its way into a wide and diveme array of manufacturing techniques and facilities, ranging from biomedical applications to microprocessor fabrication.

Laboratory astrophysics : investigation of planetary and astrophysical maser emission

open access: yes, 2013
This paper describes a model for cyclotron maser emission applicable to planetary auroral radio emission, the stars UV Ceti and CU Virginus, blazar jets and astrophysical shocks.

Particle-in-cell simulations of electron acceleration by a simple capacitative antenna in collisionless plasma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We examine the electron acceleration by a localized electrostatic potential oscillating at high frequencies by means of particle‐in‐cell (PIC) simulations, in which we apply oscillating electric fields to two neighboring simulation cells.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Temporal evolution of pump beam self-focusing at the High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
On 4 February 2005 the High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) facility was operated at 2.85 MHz to produce artificial optical emissions in the ionosphere while passing through the second electron gyroharmonic.

The electron energy distribution during HF pumping, a picture painted with all colors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
International audienceThe shape of the electron energy distribution has long been a central question in the field of high-frequency radio-induced optical emission experiments.
