This paper present analysis of rain effects on radio propagation. Special emphasis is given on rain attenuation calculation. An alternative method for calculating specific rain attenuation coefficients based on computer simulation is also proposed. This method is very straightforward, easy to use and well adapted for terrestrial and space link design ...

The prediction of rain attenuation statistics
Annales des Télécommunications, 1980The prediction of rain attenuation statistics is a question of meteorology and probability. Therefore, the possible accuracy of these predictions depends on the knowledge of meteorological mechanisms and data as well as on the statistical uncertainty due to the stochastic nature of meteorological events. Attenuations exceeded for less than 0.1 % of the

Radar Reflectivity and Attenuation of Rain
Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1963Abstract The radar reflectivity and attenuation of rain are computed for various empirical drop-size distributions using more accurate and systematic calculations of the back-scatter and attenuation cross sections from Mie theory. Reflectivity-rainfall (Z-R) relations for 3.2 to 10 cm, incorporating deviations from the Rayleigh theory, are found to be ...

Effects of Rain Attenuation on Satellite Video Transmission
2011 IEEE 73rd Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring), 2011Heavy convective rain events are often experienced in tropical countries such as Singapore. The operation of high-speed satellite transmission in the Ka-band is therefore susceptible to attenuation. We present the setup of a high-speed link via the WINDS satellite using an ultra small aperture terminals (USAT).

Frequency scaling of rain attenuation
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1977A simple method of frequency scaling for rain attenuation is presented. This method includes a correction factor for rain inhomogeneity and takes into account the high correlation between peak rainfall rate and attenuation. The results are compared with Drufuca's empirical method.

On the attenuation of sea waves by rain
Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, 1973Abstract Some conflicting evidence on Reynolds' (1900) hypothesis that rain should attenuate any wave motion on the sea surface is discussed. It is concluded that rain drops ought to produce vortex rings in the sea which mix the water to a sufficient depth to affect most waves, as asserted by Reynolds.

Statistical Behavior of Rain Attenuation*
Bell System Technical Journal, 1973Thirty-one sets of experimental data on the statistics of microwave rain attenuation at frequencies above 10 GHz, in the U.S.A., England, Japan, Italy, and Canada, indicate that: (i) the distribution of rain attenuation α, in dB, is approximately lognormal with a standard deviation σ α of log 10 α ranging from 0.46 to 0.71 for earth-space paths, and ...

Modeling of rain and slant path rain attenuation
2008The adverse impact of rain on the earth-satellite communications in the region has not been well characterized due to the lack of measured data. In view of the rapid introduction of new business and personal communications networks, based on satellite constellation operation in Ku-band or higher band with low fade-margins, it is of pressing importance ...

Rain Attenuation Prediction Methods
1986The evaluation of the effects of rain on a satellite system design requires a detailed knowledge of the attenuation statistics for each ground terminal location at the specific frequency of interest. Direct long-term measurements of rain attenuation for all of the ground terminal locations in an operational network are not practical, therefore modeling
