Postcranial anatomy of the Miocene hippopotamoids of Toros‐Menalla, Chad
Journal of Anatomy, EarlyView.We establish a framework for the identification of postcranial remains in hippopotamoids by describing and comparing for the first time two late Miocene hippopotamoids from Toros‐Menalla, Chad (Hexaprotodon garyam, an early hippopotamid, and Libycosaurus bahri, the last African anthracothere) with the common hippopotamus.

Journal of Morphology, Volume 287, Issue 8, August 2026.Using 3D geometric morphometrics on every precaudal vertebra from 12 elapid snakes, this study used segmented linear regression to test regionalisation. The results show a five‐region model is best supported, including short cervical and lumbar regions and a strong heart‐aligned boundary at approximately 20% of the pre‐caudal column.
