Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

An Improved Measurement-Oriented Marginal Multi-Bernoulli/Poisson Filter [PDF]
The measurement-oriented marginal multi-Ber-noulli/Poisson (MOMB/P) filter is an attractive approach for multi-target tracking. However, the effect of measure¬ment on predicted target states may be weakened when the hypothesized tracks are separated ...

Labeled Multi-Bernoulli Filter Joint Detection and Tracking of Radar Targets
A labeled multi-Bernoulli (LMB) filter is presented to jointly detect and track radar targets. A relevant LMB filter is recently proposed by Rathnayake which assumes that the measurements of different targets do not overlap, leading to the favorable ...

Domain Engineering and Anisotropic Domain‐Wall Photovoltaic Effects in Ferroelectric SnS
The bulk photovoltaic effect at domain walls in the in‐plane ferroelectric 2D semiconductor SnS is investigated using periodic domain structures. Unlike conventional oxide ferroelectrics, domain walls of SnS do not contribute to photocurrent generation perpendicular to the domain walls.

The liposome nanoreactor method enables uniform metal nanoparticle synthesis using the interior as a reaction environment. We demonstrate that peptide sequences and lipid compositions act as a functional molecular switch to control reaction environments in liposome nanoreactors.

A field‐driven transition from chiral stripes to an achiral fan state is observed in a tetragonal magnet and linked to a temperature‐dependent rotation of the effective Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction axis. This interplay generates pronounced in‐plane anisotropy and provides a new route for controlling chiral spin textures in noncentrosymmetric ...

Deleting Values May Either Increase or Decrease Variance
The impact upon variance when a value is deleted is addressed. It is shown that the cutoff for the deleted value yielding an increase or a decrease in variance is approximately one standard deviation from the mean for a univariate random variable with ...

Engineered Nanotopography to Modulate Growth and Signaling of Neuronal Networks
This study examines the interaction between neurons and nanoscale topographies on engineered substrates. Neurons cultured on nanowires, nanopillars and nanoneedles exhibit enhanced neurite outgrowth, form more organized neuronal circuits, and display improved synaptic connectivity, compared to flat substrates.

Novel Multi-Target Tracking Method: PMBM Filter Combined SVD-SCKF with GP-Driven Measurements
Owing to multi-target tracking in scenarios with nonlinearity, uncertain measurement model and high clutter density, the Poisson multi-Bernoulli mixture (PMBM) recursion is prone to unstable covariance propagation under nonlinear dynamics as well as ...
