Random Subnetworks of Random Sorting Networks [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2010
A sorting network is a shortest path from $12\cdots n$ to $n\cdots21$ in the Cayley graph of $S_n$ generated by nearest-neighbor swaps. For $m\leq n$, consider the random $m$-particle sorting network obtained by choosing an $n$-particle sorting network uniformly at random and then observing only the relative order of $m$ particles chosen uniformly at ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Must indeterminate rational actions be random? [PDF]

open access: yesBelgrade Philosophical Annual
One powerful objection to libertarian accounts of free will is that, if actions involve any element of indeterminism, those actions are random. Such actions are thought to be random because the only factors that can aid in explanation are reasons, and ...

Random Walks in Random Environment [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 2006
Random walks in random environments (RWRE's) have been a source of surprising phenomena and challenging problems since they began to be studied in the 70's. Hitting times and, more recently, certain regeneration structures, have played a major role in our understanding of RWRE's. We review these and provide some hints on current research directions and

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Value-Oriented Consciousness

open access: yesVestnik MGIMO-Universiteta, 2015
The article regards the interrelation between language and consciousness, but with a special focus on the fact that consciousness is not only the tool and method of reflecting human existence or regulating human actions and relations, but it is as well a

Randomized Quicksort and the Entropy of the Random Source [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The worst-case complexity of an implementation of Quicksort depends on the random number generator that is used to select the pivot elements. In this paper we estimate the expected number of comparisons of Quicksort as a function in the entropy of the random source.

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Random optimization on random sets [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Methods of Operations Research, 2019
The authors study the portfolio processes which are minimal with respect to the random preorders. A general setting is considered where the random preorder is either defined by a random set, which is not necessarily convex, or is defined by a random countable multi-utility representation.
