On processing reverse k-skyband and ranked reverse skyline queries

open access: yesInformation Sciences, 2015
Abstract In this paper, for the first time, we identify and solve the problem of efficient reverse k-skyband (R k SB) query processing. Given a set P of multi-dimensional points and a query point q , an R k SB query returns all the points in P whose dynamic k -skyband contains q .

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Risk Ranking Reversals and Classification Ranking Reversals in Risk Matrices

open access: yes, 2021
The risk matrix may appear to be a simple and effective tool that is commonly used to provide an overview of risk. Previous research indicates that risk matrices contain many weaknesses which may impact the outcome of risk assessment. This thesis gives examples of strengths and weaknesses of risk matrices with focus on several types of risk ranking ...

Consistency Preserving MOORA Framework for Robust Educational Admission and Healthcare Triage

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Computing and Health Informatics
Effectively distributing scarce resources presents a major challenge for governance in both competitive school admissions and emergency medical triage. The main problem lies in the instability of conventional ranking algorithms, where even small changes ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.
