Rare actinobacteria: a potential source of bioactive polyketides and peptides

World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2019
Polyketides and peptides obtained from actinobacteria are important therapeutic compounds which include front line antibiotics and anticancer drugs. Many screening programs are directed towards isolation of bioactive compounds from these organisms but the chances of finding novel antimicrobial leads among common actinobacteria are fast dwindling.

Antituberculotic activity of actinobacteria isolated from the rare habitats

Letters in Applied Microbiology, 2017
A distinctive screening procedure resulted in the isolation and identification of antituberculotic actinobacteria. In this course, a total of 125 actinobacteria were isolated from various soil samples from untapped areas in Northwestern Himalayas, India.

Bioleaching of rare earth elements from bastnaesite-bearing rock by actinobacteria

Chemical Geology, 2018
Abstract Biological leaching of rare earth elements (REEs) from low-grade ores and mine tailings represents a potentially cost-effective green technology for REE recovery, yet the specific mechanisms of such biological process, especially by common rock-dwelling actinobacteria, remain unclear.

Isolation and screening of proangiogenic and antiangiogenic metabolites producing rare actinobacteria from soil

Journal of Applied Microbiology, 2017
Angiogenesis is a physiological process that has important impacts on the pathology and healing of various diseases, and its induction or inhibition by bioactive actinobacterial metabolites can help the treatment of some diseases. In this study, the effects of actinobacterial extract in the process of angiogenesis have been explored. In this research ...

Glutathione: A powerful but rare cofactor among Actinobacteria

2020
Glutathione (γ-l-glutamyl-l-cysteinylglycine, GSH) is a powerful cellular redox agent. In nature only the l,l-form is common among the tree of life. It serves as antioxidant or redox buffer system, protein regeneration and activation by interaction with thiol groups, unspecific reagent for conjugation during detoxification, marker for amino acid or ...

Metabarcoding expands knowledge on diversity and ecology of rare actinobacteria in the Brazilian Cerrado

Folia Microbiologica
Rare and unknown actinobacteria from unexplored environments have the potential to produce new bioactive molecules. This study aimed to use 16 s rRNA metabarcoding to determine the composition of the actinobacterial community, particularly focusing on rare and undescribed species, in a nature reserve within the Brazilian Cerrado called Sete Cidades ...

Isolation and screening of rareActinobacteria, a new insight for finding natural products with antivascular calcification activity

Journal of Applied Microbiology, 2017
Vascular calcification (VC) is a significant pathological process in some life-threatening diseases. Several pathological mechanisms, including transdifferentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells to osteoblast-like cells and apoptosis are involved in VC. Compounds with an inhibitory effect on these processes are potentially efficient medications.

A Review on Rare and Symbiotic Actinobacteria: Emerging Biotechnological Tools Against Antimicrobial Resistance

Journal of Basic Microbiology
ABSTRACTAntimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a global threat to public health, with projections estimating 10 million deaths annually by 2050 if current trends persist. Actinobacteria, renowned for their biosynthetic capacity, are a key source of bioactive compounds, producing over 75% of known antibiotics.
