Whole exome and transcript profiling of liver following aflatoxin B1 exposure in rats
Abstract We recently developed a rat whole exome sequencing (WES) panel and used it to evaluate early somatic mutations in archival liver tissues from F344/N rats exposed to the hepatocarcinogen, Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), a widely studied, potent mutagen and hepatocarcinogen associated with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Advanced models for respiratory disease and drug studies
Abstract The global burden of respiratory diseases is enormous, with many millions of people suffering and dying prematurely every year. The global COVID‐19 pandemic witnessed recently, along with increased air pollution and wildfire events, increases the urgency of identifying the most effective therapeutic measures to combat these diseases even ...

We established a novel inducible haematopoietic cell‐depleting mouse model and tested the feasibility of using chimeric complementation to regenerate HSCs and their progeny cells. Large populations of syngeneic and major histocompatibility‐mismatched haematopoietic cells were successfully regenerated by this model.

Revisiting the testicular toxicity of cyanide: Assessment of the new and existing literature
Abstract Background Based on new testing, we re‐assess U.S. EPA and California OEHHA conclusions regarding male reproductive toxicity associated with cyanide exposure. Methods Literature identified by ATSDR, ECETOC and EPA was complemented by studies conducted after 2006. Relevant studies were scored for quality using ToxRTool. Results Eleven pertinent

Abstract In 2015, EFSA established a temporary tolerable daily intake (t‐TDI) for BPA of 4 μg/kg body weight (bw) per day. In 2016, the European Commission mandated EFSA to re‐evaluate the risks to public health from the presence of BPA in foodstuffs and to establish a tolerable daily intake (TDI). For this re‐evaluation, a pre‐established protocol was

Cysteine restriction‐specific effects of sulfur amino acid restriction on lipid metabolism
The proposed mechanism of CR‐specific effects of SAAR on adipose metabolism. (1) Due to the lack of Cys in SAAR diets, it imposes both MR and CR. CR specifically results in decreased biosynthesis of the tripeptide glutathione. (2) Lower hepatic glutathione increases the abundance of the transcription factor Nrf2, which translocates to the nucleus and ...

Mouse models of colorectal cancer. [PDF]
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignancies in the world. Many mouse models have been developed to evaluate features of colorectal cancer in humans. These can be grouped into genetically-engineered, chemically-induced, and inoculated models.

The influence of cervical and thoracic lymphadenectomy on corneal allograft rejection in inbred rats [PDF]
Aim To investigate the site of alloantigen presentation in the rat following orthotopic corneal transplantation. Methods Adult inbred Fischer 344 rats received penetrating corneal allografts from inbred Wistar Furth donors (n¼17), without lymphadenectomy.

Impact of the Aversive Effects of Drugs on Their Use and Abuse
Drug use and abuse are complex issues in that the basis of each may involve different determinants and consequences, and the transition from one to the other may be equally multifaceted. A recent model of the addiction cycle (as proposed by Koob and his colleagues) illustrates how drug‐taking patterns transition from impulsive (acute use) to compulsive
