Whole exome and transcript profiling of liver following aflatoxin B1 exposure in rats

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 43, Issue 9, Page 1293-1305, September 2023., 2023
Abstract We recently developed a rat whole exome sequencing (WES) panel and used it to evaluate early somatic mutations in archival liver tissues from F344/N rats exposed to the hepatocarcinogen, Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), a widely studied, potent mutagen and hepatocarcinogen associated with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Lewis, Fischer 344, and Sprague-Dawley rats display differences in lipid peroxidation, motor recovery, and rubrospinal tract preservation after spinal cord injury.

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2015
The rat is the most common animal model for the preclinical validation of neuroprotective therapies in spinal cord injury (SCI). Lipid peroxidation (LP) is a hallmark of the damage triggered after SCI.

Lymphoma caused by intestinal microbiota. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The intestinal microbiota and gut immune system must constantly communicate to maintain a balance between tolerance and activation: on the one hand, our immune system should protect us from pathogenic microbes and on the other hand, most of the millions ...

Inbred F344 rats as a biologic model of intra-abdominal sepsis

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Veterinary Research and Animal Science, 2002
Aiming to design a biologic model of acute intra-abdominal sepsis for experimental studies, conventional, isogenic rats F344 were infected with the bacteria Escherichia coli (E.coli), strain 11775, serotype H7:01:K1. Six hours after inoculation with E.

Advanced models for respiratory disease and drug studies

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, Volume 43, Issue 5, Page 1470-1503, September 2023., 2023
Abstract The global burden of respiratory diseases is enormous, with many millions of people suffering and dying prematurely every year. The global COVID‐19 pandemic witnessed recently, along with increased air pollution and wildfire events, increases the urgency of identifying the most effective therapeutic measures to combat these diseases even ...

Mouse models of colorectal cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignancies in the world. Many mouse models have been developed to evaluate features of colorectal cancer in humans. These can be grouped into genetically-engineered, chemically-induced, and inoculated models.

A novel inducible haematopoietic cell‐depleting mouse model for chimeric complementation of blood cells

open access: yesCell Proliferation, Volume 56, Issue 5, May 2023., 2023
We established a novel inducible haematopoietic cell‐depleting mouse model and tested the feasibility of using chimeric complementation to regenerate HSCs and their progeny cells. Large populations of syngeneic and major histocompatibility‐mismatched haematopoietic cells were successfully regenerated by this model.

The influence of cervical and thoracic lymphadenectomy on corneal allograft rejection in inbred rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Aim To investigate the site of alloantigen presentation in the rat following orthotopic corneal transplantation. Methods Adult inbred Fischer 344 rats received penetrating corneal allografts from inbred Wistar Furth donors (n¼17), without lymphadenectomy.

Early Alterations in Operant Performance and Prominent Huntingtin Aggregation in a Congenic F344 Rat Line of the Classical CAGn51trunc Model of Huntington Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2018
The transgenic rat model of Huntington disease expressing a fragment of mutant HTT (tgHD rat) has been thoroughly characterized and reproduces hallmark symptoms of human adult-onset HD.

Photoperiodic Effects on Seasonal Physiology, Reproductive Status and Hypothalamic Gene Expression in Young Male F344 Rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
yesSeasonal or photoperiodically sensitive animals respond to altered day length with changes in physiology (growth, food intake and reproductive status) and behaviour to adapt to predictable yearly changes in the climate.
