Cell Therapy for Periodontal, Soft‐Tissue, and Craniofacial Regeneration

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
The clinical translation of mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) represents a major advancement in dentistry, especially for periodontal, soft‐tissue, and craniofacial regeneration. However, several challenges remain to be addressed, including the absence of standardised protocols, limited scalability, regulatory hurdles, a lack of well‐controlled ...

Periodontitis and Diabetes: Mechanistic Evidence of a Circular Relationship

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This narrative review aimed to explore the underlying mechanisms that connect periodontitis to diabetes (and vice versa) and that influence disease susceptibility, progression and response to treatment. ABSTRACT The circular relationship between periodontitis and diabetes mellitus is one of the most established oral‐systemic links.

Periodontitis and Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes: Mechanistic Evidence

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This narrative review aims to describe mechanisms linking periodontal diseases in pregnancy with adverse pregnancy outcomes. ABSTRACT Periodontal diseases, including both gingivitis and periodontitis, occur commonly among pregnant individuals. Both gingivitis and periodontitis are associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) such as early ...

Phloridzin Mitigates Aging‐Associated Periodontitis by Restraining Inflammatory Cell Death

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Phloridzin attenuated oxidative stressinduced senescence, inflammatory responses, and osteogenic dysfunction in HPDLCs. In an aging‐associated experimental periodontitis model, phloridzin alleviated alveolar bone loss, suggesting its potential to maintain periodontal tissue integrity under aging‐related inflammatory conditions.

Smart Coatings Integrating Antimicrobial and Tissue‐Remodeling Functions for Implant Interfaces

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of a dental implant system showing inflammation around a non‐coated abutment (left) and a stimuli‐responsive coated abutment (right). Acidification associated with inflammation triggers degradation of the PMAA‐based coating, enabling controlled antibiotic release from the LbL system and combating bacterial infection.

Pharmacological Modulation of Nrf2 Signaling Regulates Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Alveolar Bone Loss in Experimental Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Pharmacological activation of Nrf2 attenuated alveolar bone loss and protected periodontal tissues by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, preserving collagen organization, and favoring bone homeostasis. Reversal of these effects by Nrf2 inhibition further supports Nrf2 signaling as a promising therapeutic target in periodontitis.
