Wideband RF Analysis with Rayleigh Backscattering
CLEO 2024We present an RF spectrum analyzer capable of monitoring a 15GHz band with MHz-level resolution and 385kHz update rate. We use Rayleigh-backscattering in single-mode fiber to produce frequency-dependent speckle patterns to recover the RF spectrum.

Modelling of Rayleigh backscattering in plastic optical fiber

No.03TH8707), 2004The Rayleigh scattering coefficient within plastic optical fiber (POF), which is also called turbidity, has been investigated and parameters affecting the level of turbidity have been located and discussed. The Rayleigh attenuation model has been built on turbidity and has been verified by comparing with published data.

Acoustic backscattering in water at the Rayleigh angle
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1980An acoustical pulse confined to a finite beam in water, incident on a plane solid surface generates a specular pulse. Also, a pulse radiated from the Rayleigh wave, which is generated on the surface is generated adjacent to and partially overlapping the specular pulse.

Effect of Rayleigh backscattering in an optical passive ring-resonator gyro
Applied Optics, 1984Resonance characteristics of Rayleigh backscattering in an optical passive ring-resonator gyro (OPRG) are theoretically formulated taking the temporal coherence of the optical source into account. This resonance has two peaks with separation equal to the Sagnac phase shift when rotation is induced.

Cooperative stimulated Brillouin and Rayleigh backscattering process in optical fiber
Optics Letters, 1998We observed an unusually narrow spectrum of Stokes field and Gaussian statistics of Stokes power for the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) process in 300-m single-mode optical fiber with high Rayleigh losses. The measured characteristics of the Stokes radiation indicate that SBS lasing took place in the fiber.

Spectral broadening of double Rayleigh backscattering in a distributed Raman amplifier

Technical Digest Postconference Edition (IEEE Cat. 01CH37171), 2001We observe broadening of the double Rayleigh backscattering (DRBS) spectrum in a Raman amplifier. This effect is caused by pump intensity fluctuations combined with proper fiber dispersion and can significantly reduce DRBS multipath interference crosstalk.
