On the modal damping ratios of shear-type structures equipped with Rayleigh damping systems
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2006Abstract The effects of added manufactured viscous dampers upon shear-type structures are analytically investigated here for the class of Rayleigh damping systems. The definitions of mass proportional damping (MPD) and stiffness proportional damping (SPD) systems are briefly recalled and their physical counterpart is derived.

Damping of Rayleigh waves excited by a moving source
Journal of Soviet Mathematics, 1979The displacement field in a layered medium excited by a moving source is investigated. The resonance occurring when the speeds of the source and of the Rayleigh wave coincide is investigated and the character of the damping in this case is clarified.

Multi-frequency inversion in Rayleigh damped Magnetic Resonance Elastography
Biomedical Signal Processing and Control, 2014Abstract Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) is able to identify mechanical properties of biological tissues in vivo based on underlying assumptions of the model used for inversion. Models, such as the linearly elastic or viscoelastic (VE), can be used with a single input frequency data and can produce a reasonable estimate of identified ...

Multi-frequency Rayleigh damped elastography: in silico studies
Medical Engineering & Physics, 2014Rayleigh damping (RD) is commonly used to model energy attenuation for analyses of structures subjected to dynamic loads. In time-harmonic Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE), the RD model was shown to be non-identifiable at a single frequency data due to the ill-posed nature of the imaginary components describing energy dissipation arising from ...

Characterization and Synthesis of Rayleigh Damped Elastodynamic Networks
2016We consider damped elastodynamic networks where the damping matrix is assumed to be a non-negative linear combination of the stiffness and mass matrices (Rayleigh damping). We give here a characterization of the frequency response of such networks.
