Use of a Rayleigh damping model in elastography
Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing, 2008A Rayleigh damping model applied to magnetic resonance elastography incorporates attenuation behavior proportionally related to both elastic and inertial forces, and allows two damping parameters to be extracted from an MRI motion dataset. Under time-harmonic conditions, the model can be implemented by the use of complex shear modulus and density ...

On the role of Rayleigh damping
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1995The computation of the Rayleigh damping coefficients α and β is an important consideration in the area of the modal superposition technique. In this paper, an experimental investigation carried out on square and rectangular plates with various boundary conditions to determine the damping ratios for a few modes of vibration is reported.

Formulation of Rayleigh damping and its extensions
Computers & Structures, 1995The objective of this paper is to present a study on the formulation of Rayleigh damping for a damped linear mechanical system. By means of examining the existing theory on Rayleigh damping, extensions of Rayleigh damping are proposed in terms of a double series. The extended forms provide more choices in formulating a damping matrix.
