Optimal Process Design of Onboard Bog Partial Re-Liquefaction System for 170k LNG Carrier

Volume 1: Offshore Technology, 2017
LNG carriers contain LNG at the cryogenic temperature of below −162°C and slightly above the atmospheric pressure. Although the LNG cargo tanks are well insulated, still the heat leak from the atmosphere and BOG (Boil-Off Gas) generation is inevitable. The re-liquefaction system was devised to prevent this loss of BOG by liquefaction of BOG to LNG.

Exergetic Optimization of a Refrigeration Cycle for Re-Liquefaction of LNG Boil-Off Gas

2010
The development of liquefaction process for liquefied natural gas boil-off re-liquefaction plants will be addressed to provide an environmentally friendly and cost effective solution for gas transport. Onboard boil-off gas (BOG) re-liquefaction is a new technology that liquefies BOG and returns it to the cargo tanks instead of burning it.
