A modeling of the carbon-nitrogen cycle transport at Igap\'o I Lake - Londrina, Paran\'a, Brazil

open access: yes, 2010
This work is a contribution to better understand the effect that domestic sewage discharges may cause in a water body, specifically Igap\'o I Lake, in Londrina, Paran\'a, Brazil.

Nitro-fatty acid formation and metabolism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Nitro-fatty acids (NO 2 -FA) are pleiotropic modulators of redox signaling pathways. Their effects on inflammatory signaling have been studied in great detail in cell, animal and clinical models primarily using exogenously administered nitro-oleic acid ...

Ideal Molecular Sieving with a Dense MOF for Helium Upgrading with Highly Diffusion Selective Mixed Matrix Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The separation of Helium gas from natural gas is challenging but highly important. MIL‐116(Ga), a “non‐porous” metal–organic framework is used as a molecular sieve to separate He from CH4. Druse‐like MIL‐116(Ga) particles are integrated into polysulfone mixed matrix membranes.

Involvement of endolysosome iron in HIV-1 gp120-, morphine-, and iron supplementation-induced disruption of the reactive species interactome and induction of neurotoxicity

open access: yesRedox Report
Background: Iron continues to be linked to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders including HIV-1 associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND). People with HIV-1 who use opioids have a higher risk of developing HAND, and HIV-1 proteins and opioids

Antioxidant therapy for hypertension; a mini-review on the recent findings [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nephropharmacology
Oxidative stress is a key mechanism underlying hypertension. Therefore, antioxidant therapy is an attractive concept for hypertension. Antioxidant therapy has been shown to have a significant impact on blood pressure reduction in various studies.

Sers-based nanosensors for the sensitive detection of reactive oxygen species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The unbalanced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of several human diseases.

Reactive Nitrogen Species and Nitric Oxide

open access: yes, 2015
Free radical nitric oxide (NO) is a biological messenger with diverse functions in plant physiology, including in stress physiology. Together with NO, related molecules called reactive nitrogen species (RNS), e.g. peroxynitrite or S-nitrosothiols, are associated with plant metabolism under both physiological and stress conditions.

Intermolecular Interactions as Driving Force of Increasing Multiphoton Absorption in a Perylene Diimide‐Based Coordination Polymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study uncovers the unexplored role of intermolecular interactions in multiphoton absorption in coordination polymers. By analyzing [Zn2tpda(DMA)2(DMF)0.3], it shows how the electronic coupling of the chromophores and confinement in the MOF enhance two‐and three‐photon absorption.

NOXious gases and the unpredictability of emerging plant pathogens under climate change

open access: yesBMC Biology, 2017
Emerging pathogens of crops threaten food security and are increasingly problematic due to intensive agriculture and high volumes of trade and transport in plants and plant products.
