Endoscopic small bowel therapies for type 2 diabetes

open access: yesNutrition in Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Type 2 diabetes is a global epidemic despite current medical treatments. Many patients are not responsive to medications, and patients with obesity are hesitant about bariatric surgery. Studies investigating the metabolic effects of Roux‐en‐Y gastric bypass have increasingly demonstrated that the duodenum plays a key role in the ...

Recellularization of a novel off-the-shelf valve following xenogenic implantation into the right ventricular outflow tract. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Current research on valvular heart repair has focused on tissue-engineered heart valves (TEHV) because of its potential to grow similarly to native heart valves.

Innovative Biotechnology for Generation of Cardiac Tissue

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Heart transplantation remains the only curative treatment for end-stage heart failure. This life-saving option continues to be limited by the low number of organ donors, graft rejection and adverse effects of immunosuppressants. Engineering bioartificial

Decellularized Extracellular Matrix Scaffolds to Engineer the Dormant Landscape of Microscopic Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 8, 23 February 2026.
Decellularized liver extracellular matrix scaffolds provide a platform to study dormant liver‐metastatic colorectal cancer. They induce reversible dormancy, in combination with nutrient depletion and low dose chemotherapy, through cell cycle arrest and chemotherapy resistance.

A proposed model of xeno-keratoplasty using 3D printing and decellularization

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2023
Corneal opacity is a leading cause of vision impairment and suffering worldwide. Transplantation can effectively restore vision and reduce chronic discomfort. However, there is a considerable shortage of viable corneal graft tissues.

Recellularization of Rat Liver Scaffolds by Human Liver Stem Cells [PDF]

open access: yesTissue Engineering Part A, 2015
In the present study, rat liver acellular scaffolds were used as biological support to guide the differentiation of human liver stem-like cells (HLSC) to hepatocytes. Once recellularized, the scaffolds were maintained for 21 days in different culture conditions to evaluate hepatocyte differentiation.

3D Bioprinted Human Synovium‐Cartilage Models Mimic Rheumatoid Arthritis Microenvironment and Recapitulate In Vivo Therapeutic Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 8, 6 February 2026.
This study presents human in vitro rheumatoid arthritis models using chondrocytes recellularized type II collagen scaffold and 3D‐bioprinted Gelatin‐Matrigel hydrogels with fibroblast‐like synoviocytes, pro‐inflammatory macrophages, and protective barrier macrophages, closely recapitulating key rheumatoid arthritis pathological features.

A recellularized human colon model identifies cancer driver genes [PDF]

open access: yesNature Biotechnology, 2016
Refined cancer models are needed to bridge the gaps between cell line, animal and clinical research. Here we describe the engineering of an organotypic colon cancer model by recellularization of a native human matrix that contains cell-populated mucosa and an intact muscularis mucosa layer.

Design Principles and Mechanics: A Review of Emerging Paradigms in Intervertebral Disc Regeneration and Replacement

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 311, Issue 2, February 2026.
Low back pain, a major global cause of disability, arises primarily from intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration and imposes significant socioeconomic impacts, especially in aging and obese populations. Current treatments, fusion and total disc replacement, fail to fully replicate native disc biomechanics.

Tissue specificity of decellularized rhesus monkey kidney and lung scaffolds. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Initial steps in establishing an optimal strategy for functional bioengineered tissues is generation of three-dimensional constructs containing cells with the appropriate organization and phenotype.
