Cannabinoid CB2 receptors: Immunohistochemical localization in rat brain

Brain Research, 2006
Brain expression of CB2 cannabinoid receptors has been much less well established and characterized in comparison to the expression of brain CB1 receptors. Since CB2 receptors are intensely expressed in peripheral and immune tissues, expression in brain microglia has been anticipated.

Cannabinoid CB1 and CB2 Receptor Ligand Specificity and the Development of CB2-Selective Agonists

Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2008
Cannabinoids in current use such as nabilone activate both CB1 and CB2 receptors. Selective CB2 activation may provide some of the therapeutic effects of cannabinoids, such as their immuno-modulatory properties, without the psychoactive effects of CB1 activation.

Distribution of CB2 cannabinoid receptor in adult rat retina

Synapse, 2010
AbstractCannabinoid effects are mediated through two receptors, CB1 and CB2. In the retina CB1 has been reported in bipolar cells, gabaergic amacrine cells, horizontal cells, and inner plexiform layer. CB2 receptor mRNA localization was shown in photoreceptors, inner nuclear layer, and ganglion cell layer by using RT‐PCR.

Postsynaptic localization of CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the rat hippocampus

Synapse, 2008
AbstractThe expression of CB2 cannabinoid receptors (CB2‐Rs) in the brain and their neuronal function has now attracted research interest, since we and others have demonstrated the presence of CB2‐Rs in neuronal and glial cells in the brain. In this study, we show the subcellular distribution of CB2‐Rs in neuronal, glial, and endothelial cells in the ...

Role of cannabinoid CB2 receptor in the reinforcing actions of ethanol.

Addiction biology, 2015
This study examines the role of the cannabinoid CB2 receptor (CB2 r) on the vulnerability to ethanol consumption. The time-related and dose-response effects of ethanol on rectal temperature, handling-induced convulsions (HIC) and blood ethanol concentrations were evaluated in CB2 KO and wild-type (WT) mice.

Cannabinoid CB2 receptors and hypersensitivity to methamphetamine: Vulnerability to schizophrenia

Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry
The human cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2R) gene CNR2 has been associated with schizophrenia development. Inbred mice treated with the CB2R inverse agonist AM630 and challenged with methamphetamine (MAP) showed reduced prepulse inhibition (%PPI) response and locomotor hyperactivity, both behavioral measures in rodents that correlate with psychosis.
