Cathepsin B Regulates Ovarian Reserve Quality and Quantity via Mitophagy by Modulating IGF1R Turnover

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Autophagy regulates ovarian reserve, with Cathepsin B playing a critical role in aging. Inhibition of Cathepsin B increases follicle count, enhances IGF1R–AKT–mTOR signaling and improves mitochondrial function without compromising fertility. This conserved mechanism suggests potential therapeutic strategies to delay ovarian aging and sustain fertility,

Single‐Cell RNA‐Seq Reveals Aging‐Related Impairment of Microglial Efferocytosis Contributing to Apoptotic Cells Accumulation After Retinal Injury

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Microglia engage with apoptotic cells via cell‐surface receptors, such as proto‐oncogene tyrosine‐protein kinase MER (MerTK) and Axl; these receptors interact with the bridging molecule growth arrest‐specific 6 (Gas6) on apoptotic cells. Young microglia demonstrate efficient efferocytosis of apoptotic cells, but this process is impaired in aged ...

Short‐Term Severe Energy Restriction Promotes Molecular Health and Reverses Aging Signatures in Adults With Prediabetes in the PREVIEW Study

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Severe short‐term energy restriction in adults with prediabetes led to a significant reduction in circulating proteins linked to inflammation, senescence, and protein turnover. These changes, partly mediated by extracellular vesicles, suggest systemic dietary‐induced benefits beyond glycemic control, including improved aging biomarkers.

Are physiological oscillations physiological?

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract figure legend Mechanisms and functions of physiological oscillations. Abstract Despite widespread and striking examples of physiological oscillations, their functional role is often unclear. Even glycolysis, the paradigm example of oscillatory biochemistry, has seen questions about its oscillatory function.
