Agonism and Antagonism at the Insulin Receptor

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Insulin can trigger metabolic as well as mitogenic effects, the latter being pharmaceutically undesirable. An understanding of the structure/function relationships between insulin receptor (IR) binding and mitogenic/metabolic signalling would greatly facilitate the preclinical development of new insulin analogues.

MARCH1 regulates insulin sensitivity by controlling cell surface insulin receptor levels

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Insulin receptor levels at the cell surface are reduced in insulin resistance, for reasons that are not fully understood. Here, the authors identify the E3 ubiquitin ligase MARCH1 as a direct regulator of basal insulin receptor surface levels and ...

A high-fructose diet induces changes in pp185 phosphorylation in muscle and liver of rats

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2000
Insulin stimulates the tyrosine kinase activity of its receptor resulting in the tyrosine phosphorylation of pp185, which contains insulin receptor substrates IRS-1 and IRS-2. These early steps in insulin action are essential for the metabolic effects of

The insulin superfamily of growth-promoting proteins [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
Recently, structural analysis of the human transferrin and growth hormone (GH) amino acid sequences has unravelled that they harbor a motif identical to a pattern found in viral oncoproteins known to bind the primarily nuclear tumor suppressor retinoblastoma protein (RB).

Modeling the distribution of insulin in pancreas [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Maintenance of adequate physical and functional pancreatic $\beta$-cell mass is critical for the prevention or delay of diabetes mellitus. It is well established that insulin potently activates mitogenic and anti-apoptotic signaling cascades in cultured $\beta$-cells.

MiR-205 serves as a prognostic factor and suppresses proliferation and invasion by targeting insulin-like growth factor receptor 1 in human cervical cancer

open access: yesTumor Biology, 2017
MicroRNAs are a kind of small and non-coding RNAs, which have been demonstrated to play an important role in the progression of human cervical cancer.

Antiproliferative MCR peptides block physical interaction of insulin with retinoblastoma protein (RB) in human lung cancer cells [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
Fifteen years ago, a structural analysis of the hormone insulin and the retinoblastoma tumor suppressor protein (RB) revealed that they may physically interact with one another. Subsequently, an RB peptide corresponding to the proposed RB binding site for insulin was found to recognize full-length insulin in vitro.

New Twist on Neuronal Insulin Receptor Signaling in Health, Disease, and Therapeutics

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2005
Long after the pioneering studies documenting the existence of insulin (year 1967) and insulin receptor (year 1978) in brain, the last decade has witnessed extraordinary progress in the understanding of brain region-specific multiple roles of insulin ...

Insulin and insulin receptor abnormality.

open access: yesNihon Naika Gakkai Zasshi, 1993

Structure and dynamics of dynorphin peptide and its receptor [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Dynorphin is a neuropeptide involved in pain, addiction and mood regulation. It exerts its activity by binding to the kappa opioid receptor (KOP) which belongs to the large family of G-protein coupled receptors. The dynorphin peptide was discovered in 1975, while its receptor was cloned in 1993.
